I think a lot of us physical media nerds suffer from serious FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). We can't stand seeing other people getting their hands on new releases while we remain empty handed. Even if we've already seen all the films in the box-set. And I'm not being judgmental. I'm the king of FOMO. I have to pre-order things right away and assure they'll get delivered to me nice and early, like a psycho. I actually envy those people who can wait and wait and then get these releases at a decent price. 4 1
Member saltysam Posted June 11 Member Share Posted June 11 While i love saving money, i'm happy to pay the £95.99 for this on release day. less than £8 a movie, and i'll recoup some of that cost by selling those ones in the set i already have.
Member ChillyChong Posted June 11 Member Share Posted June 11 Would not even imagine waiting year(s) to save little bit in k f.for american movies wait but that is different game. Don't need/want them asap and prices go down some months after release

Although I can afford to buy every new release, I prefer to wait for a price drop or sale. Additionally, I have seen some of these movies multiple times, so I am comfortable waiting...... sometimes 😁 I recently purchased the Ti Lung/David Chiang collection from eBay for $139, while Shout is still selling it for $169. People who got it from Shout at $169 also received for free the Happy Death Day 1 & 2 4K UHD collection pin set, posters etc which they flipped on eBay, Mercari, etc for $65 to $100. So they essentially got the Ti Lung set for $70 to $100. Edited June 11 by Yihetuan
Member Red Lion Posted June 11 Member Share Posted June 11 I waited until the price of vol 2 came down to 60 in cex and just watched the films on the arrow player. That one was different though because i already had half of the films (mostly from the german 10 disc shaw set that had no subs and other releases) so i felt like i wasn't in any hurry. This one however i feel like i want to preorder because i only have the one armed swordsman trilogy and dont have any of the others. Part of me wants to wait but the other part of me is scared this will be one of the ones that shoots up in price and i end up regretting it. Aaaahhh first world problems. Lol. 1

Judging by the previous boxsets I think you can be rest assured that will not happen. I think us Kung Fu fans sometimes don't realize that we are a niche market & if these boutique labels sell 2000 copies worldwide that it's considered a success.

Depending on how you look at it, I'm lucky in the respect that while I have enjoyed Shawbros, they're not my go to. So I have felt comfortable waiting on these. I got Vol 1 for £50 as well last year. Member ironfistedmonk Posted June 12 Member Share Posted June 12 I suffer from day 1 purchase syndrome as well, even though I already own all of the films on these sets in one format or another I just can't help myself as it's all shiny and new

This one is really, really good! On 4/29/2020 at 4:18 PM, Takuma said: The Threat (脅迫) (Japan, 1966) [VoD] - 4/5 Brutal, extremely intense Kinji Fukasaku thriller about a family man (Rentaro Mikuni) forced to help two criminals (Ko Nishimura and Hideo Murota) in a kidnapping/blackmail plot after they invade his house and take his family as hostage. Fukasaku once said he's proud of his filmography from the early 70s on, but closer inspection shows he already directed various small, but highly effective pictures in the 60s. This one is almost as hard hitting as his 70s classics, sharing their editing rhythms and documentary style street cinematography. The cast is terrific, Nishimura (the old priest from Lady Snowblood) in particular as the main bad guy.
Member ChillyChong Posted June 29 Member Share Posted June 29 Torso is indeed must have. It also has extremely rare scene in giallo killer attacks when several people are around. Sequence survivor avoids murderer is very good. Some other sergio martino movies may be more popular but torso is his finest

I actually saw this a few months ago, thought it was just going to be a potboiler but was a pretty taut crime thriller with some great camerawork & shades of Sam Fuller. Rentaro Mikuni was excellent as was the supporting cast, I especially enjoyed Hideo Murota as the unhinged brutish muscle with Ko Nishimura as the brains of the operation. Usually see Murota playing a Yakuza lackey or underling and not get as much screen time as this movie. Favorite scene was... Spoiler Mikuni after the botched money hand off and after a narrow escape from the undercover police, he just drifts aimlessly in the streets plotting what to do next with all the implications it will have for his family. Great soundtrack and use of filters. Also enjoyed the Straw Dogs type ending of Mikuni's character who finally had enough and decides to take matters in his own hands.
