Member dwk Posted June 15, 2022 Member Share Posted June 15, 2022 Infernal Affairs no longer appears on Miramax's website. So, maybe it is a clue.
Member DiP Posted June 15, 2022 Author Member Share Posted June 15, 2022 Great inclusion by Criterion. The first two Infernal Affairs movies are some of the finest HK crime movies of the last 20 years.

Member nahnahnah Posted July 11, 2022 Member Share Posted July 11, 2022 It's been confirmed that Criterion/Janus have the rights to the Infernal Affairs trilogy, as Janus have uploaded pages for the trilogy to their website. https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2085 https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2086 https://www.janusfilms.com/films/2087
Member nahnahnah Posted July 19, 2022 Member Share Posted July 19, 2022 A user in a different forum was talking to a film programmer and they had revealed that Janus have the rights to Sammo Hung's 'Eastern Condors', which means that Criterion would have the home video rights to it as well. Here's to hoping that it's released soon!

Member dwk Posted August 17, 2022 Member Share Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) Likely due to past sales numbers. I assume that the lousy Miramax and Dragon Dynasty Infernal Affairs solo and trilogy discs were poor sellers. While past performance isn't always predictive of future performance, it usually is and is a determining factor in spending the extra money to produce UHDs. Just in time for my birthday! Pretty sad that Infernal Affairs will only get a 1080p Blu-Ray release.

Supposedly it's only BD-66 for the French release, so there will be compression issues as such

Member dwk Posted October 21, 2022 Member Share Posted October 21, 2022 Unfortunate for those that lost their jobs, but, to put it into perspective, Criterion still has a staff of 60, which is much larger than nearly every other boutique label (Shout Factory, if the internet is to be believed, with a staff of more than 80 people, is the only one that has more employees than Criterion.) Having so many people on the payroll in this home media environment likely was no longer viable.

Not really dumb to not release this on UHD when the restorations for all 3 films have been DNR'd and have resulted in a waxy-looking image.

Reminds me of the cover for Kino's release of Legend of The Mountain but done worse. Both covers look better on that one.
