I've been trying to find a thread like this on the board but can't find one, so I thought I'd go ahead and start one! I

I'm curious to see what all you guys and girls would put in your top 20 Classic Martial Arts list. I'm currently trying to piece together my own list but it's damn hard!

I don't think I've even seen enough non Shaws classic martial arts movies to make a top 20.

But the people who post their lists would be a great starting point for me and others to use to seek out films from this era.

This list should consist of your top 20 Classic MA films, regardless if it is Shaw or not! :)

I just couldnt condense it down to twenty titles, and the films/titles would be forever changing.

I just realized I forgot about Angela Mao, she would occupy about 4 places for sure in my list so the list I typed is already out of date.

So here goes. Please bear in mind I'll always love the pre-shapes era, as I was 15 when I saw my first fu film (Fist of Fury). I'm now 63 and always remember those exciting days of the "Kung fu Boom" being in darkened, packed rowdy cinemas...

In no particular order (but the first two are interchangeable)

Way of the Dragon

One Armed Boxer

King Boxer

The Big Boss

Chinese Vengeance (Blood Brothers)

Con Man & the Kung fu Kid (Wits to Wits)

Dragons of Death (Fist to Fist)

Hellfighters of the East (Four Riders)

Hap Ki Do

The New One Armed Swordsman

Beach of the War Gods

Fist of Fury

Fist of Fury II

Chinatown Kid

Men from the Monastery

Heroes Two

Lady Whirlwind

Exit the Dragon Enter the Tiger

The Man from Hong Kong

Enter the Dragon

Hey Shukocarl what was it like to be in the cinema for a kung fu movie? Was there a lot of crowd participation like cheering and booing etc? Maybe sometimes even all hell broke loose between people arguing?

Good list I only really dislike heroes two. I would go further than you and say I pretty much dislike the shapes era but I do acknowledge the artistry of the choreography. It just isn't my cup of tea.

Have you seen "Avengement" with Scott Adkins? This felt like a complete throwback to Chinese basher films to me, that final brawl is one for the ages.

Yes, it did get a bit rowdy with cheering and oohs and ahhs but I never saw any fighting like in U.S.

Nope I haven't seen "Avengement" but looks like I'll have to check it out ;-)

Little Superman

Delightful Forest

Kung Fu Fever

Shaolin Dolemite

The Undaunted Wudang

Avenging Eagle
