There have been many booms of certain subgenres in cinematic history. For example the spaghetti western during the mid and late 60s, the peplum films from the late 50s to the mid 60s, the giallo films of the 70s etc
But kung fu was bigger than all of those right? While the other named subgenres got a couple of hundred releases during their peak I have the feeling we talk about easily well over a 1000 different kung fu films. Perhaps the slasher subgenre comes close?
