The 88 Films Blu-Ray Thread

I started off trying to pre-order with 88 for Snake. I have rewards to cover the purchase but then as I was checking out saw the amount of shipping which was at least the cost of the movie itself, easily. Made me do a double-take. On top of paying a lot more for shipping than normal, my financial institution likes to charge me a little fee for each foreign transaction. Guess everyone has to make a little something something off me. Not like I`m a millionaire! But, I`m still going to be getting this!

Ok, I’ve made my peace with the new shipping charge, because it stays the same even if you order multiple titles. So, I ordered:

Snake In The Eagle’s Shadow — £14.99

The Protector — £12.99

The Vengeful Beauty — £12.99

The Human Goddess — £6.99

The Spiritual Boxer — £12.99

Casino Tycoon — £4.99

Shipping: £16.00

Total: £81.94

Now, that’s an absolute steal of a deal!!! You just gotta order a few at a time to make it worth it, which is easy to do at these sale prices!

Mine too, and I finally got Human Goddess, since it seems that the shipping outside UK and Eire is now allowed for this one.

I got an email saying it' on the way and tracked too.  So, at least i can track it so i'm not going to complain about the shipping price.

After having not received The young Master from Zoom.uk (they sent me a refund), I had the luck to get it from 88 with the Deluxe edition.

What a superb edition ! I haven't had time to check it as yet, but only the postcards, the poster and the booklet are worth the price !!

Yikes, US shipping price is absolutely prohibitive now. Even Amazon UK is two pounds cheaper. I know, Covid and all, but...yikes.

I agree... It's heartbreaking, I love 88 Films and support them as much as I can, but I can't justify ordering a movie and the shipping being more expensive than the movie itself... looks like I have to find alternatives.. :monk_crying:

Despite the crazy high shipping, I placed an order through 88 Films. $40 for a release this good isn’t too bad. I’d struggle if it were much more. I really want to support them as much as I can.

Please tell me this is a temporary shipping hike. Please.

14£ shipping for SITES for me, wasn't too happy about it to be honest. Normally that wouldn't be that much of a problem but March, April and May were/are packed with some sweet releases. Balancing between supporting 88 and Eureka and fellow memebers with their awesome custom projects or getting the latest goodies from MVD, DDD and others is quite a task these days. But still, we can be grateful, it's a good time to be a collector.

From what I understand (this is NOT an official statement), so many packages were being lost or damaged by incompetent shipping/Customs' handling/delivery people- which 88 Films would then replace- that they were taking a major hit. So the only solution was tracked shipping. Yes, much more expensive, but better than them having to basically throw stock away with all the disappearing packages (with Limited Editions in them) and replacements they had to send. 88 have been swift with shipments to me, both before and after I started doing work for them. But since the pandemic I've received two boxes that looked like they were trampled by a crowd, rolled down a mountain, and dragged down ten miles of bad road. Some orders have still arrived fairly quickly, while others have taken a long time. And my package with THE YOUNG MASTER went missing and still never showed up (they sent me a replacement). Hope this explains the high shipping price, and it being the only option.

Fingers crossed Eureka doesn't go the same route and continues to offer free international shipping.

I ended up getting SITES from Amazon UK after all since I also pre-ordered the 4K UHD Battle Royale from Arrow to minimize shipping.

I can relate when i ordered Crime Story last year it was lost in the mail.  They were kind of to send me another copy that actually has the slipcover and book that came with the blu-ray.

Wherever you purchase an 88 Films release from, it's still good for them; it doesn't have to be through their website. I'm just glad that you and so many others are still collecting physical media.

That BATTLE ROYALE set is tempting, but... expensive. $76 before shipping! But still... most likely worth it. :sweating But... so many other things just pre-ordered... MILLIONAIRE'S EXPRESS, DRIVE, SANTA SANGRE, DAY OF THE BEAST... Not sure I can do it. It looks like a gorgeous set.

Right on! Yeah, they are super cool. When my copy of THE YOUNG MASTER hadn't arrived after a long wait they said "We're going to ship you another one" and I told them not to. I figured it would most likely show up eventually, and I didn't want them wasting another copy on me that they could be selling. But they shipped it anyway as they were afraid the Limited Edition would sell out and I'd miss out on getting one. I'm glad they were so thoughtful, because the original package never made it here.

Was shocked to see the change in shipping cost. I thought it was, perhaps, due to the fact that I used my rewards to pretty much get the movie free. But, oh well! Just sucks that now so many movies are coming out between Eureka and 88, it's going to cost me a small fortune per movie. Not like I got a raise to offset the cost of shipping. Hope it doesn't come to me missing out on some choice releases. But, $45 (or more) US for the cost of a single movie and shipping is a lot.

I ended up ordering through Amazon.uk it was $32, so not as hefty a price tag.

After reading your explanation KFB I can totally understand, as I sell online as well and your dead to rights w/o tracking...

Also the Eureka news was amazing, I can't wait for the next couple months!! I hope we continue to get more Johnnie To, and Chow Yun Fat stuff

I’ll be picking up Robotrix as I’ve heard it’s a riot but I doubt I’ll be shelling out the cash for the Van Damme releases. I’m on the fence about Story of Ricky. I don’t love the film but it might be nice to have in the collection. Especially if it’s chock full of features.

Must admit i've never been the biggest JCVD fan. Think i only kept Hard Target,No Retreat, Bloodsport and Kickboxer. I did pick up 88's Maximum Risk but it wasn't as good as i remembered and sold it on. Would possibly pick up Double Impact if 88 released it.

Look what’s through the Mail today guys

Could you let me know if they included the alternative opening scene of Snake In The Eagles Shadow which mentions the history of the fued between the Eagles Claw Clan and the Snake Fist School?

I contacted 88-Films and offered them the footage, they replied saying we’ll contact you if we’re interested, but no one ever contacted me about the footage. So I assume they probably already had and were going to include it.

Did they?
