Good point. For some reason, I thought it might be Secret Service of the Imperial Court but I'm going off the feel of the pic, rather than a distinct image from the fillm. It makes me think of a Tien Peng's wuxia movie, maybe The face behind the mask, where he wears this kind of clothes and holds a sword, walking in the snow. It looks like a sword to me, but I may be mistaken.
Member Chemical Lemon Posted August 21 Author Member Share Posted August 21 I also immediately thought wuxia when I saw this art. Although I thought it looked more like a wuxia comic than real life. It is art though which might be why

The art implies someone with very disheveled hair, and Adam Cheng is definitely in a state of disarray:

To be honest, when I first the picture shown by sam green, I thought of Wang Yu's at once, maybe The Assassin. Then, I thought of Tien Peng because of the snow. Maybe we are all mistaken...

I'm afraid I have yet to see The Sword with Wang Yu. I definitely wouldn't mind something with Tien Peng though, with Love and Sword on top of my wish list.

Can you let me know if the alternate Mandarin dub is a shortened version of the Taiwanese cut (Janet Jackson tune during the catwalk scene). Hope that question makes sense. Among all that goodness, my eyes are still drawn to Andy grabbing JC's nuts! Why the designer chose that image, I will never know.

Oh, the music's different, too? I really hope that a Region A or re-release in the not too distant future can get the full Taiwan cut or a hybrid.

Member ChillyChong Posted August 28 Member Share Posted August 28 Booklet in Island of fire is good stuff. Essay by David West is well written and while mostly it is already pretty widely known stuff there few bits of new info here and there. however on less serious tone I found clothes make the Chan perhaps slightly more entertaining. Going to check movie today but am sure already pq is solid. and slipcase is really strong I think no need to buy a protector for this (from vinegar store).

Member tomgray2404 Posted August 29 Member Share Posted August 29 REVIEW: The shortened version of Island of Fire with the original Mandarin audio is the best version IMO. I own a HK DVD of the uncut version, but I don't miss the scenes that have been removed. Spoiler The sister and the mother trying to get the guy out of jail is harrowing and slows things down. The only thing I don't like is Tony Leung not picking up Sammo's kid at the end. Also, there were a few subtitle errors and overlaps. No big deal. Hats off to 88 Films for a grand job on this.
