Another fantastic release from 88 films

Do you have enough walls for all your posters @Graysman?

It would be nice they mentioned the size of the posters on the rear cover. These ones I know the size of, as you've told me, but other companies, their posters are huge with no measurements for the right sized picture frame.

Yes I’m moving everything thing in to a much bigger room in the next few weeks 😊

I try to get every release with the posters also. :thumbsup

Teasing an upcoming release?

I think it's Stephen Chow's The Magnificent Scoundrel. That means I can finally retire my copy of the Hong Kong bluray, which has great video/audio but terrible subtitles.

No, that's definitely RAID ON ROYAL CASINO MARINE.  This was from the scene about 43 minutes into the film when the girls went out to the deck for a tan.

Ahhh Magic Crystal …….. this movie is a classic . No , not a guilt pleasure classic either , I think this is just classic Hong Kong cinema. One of those films that is just constant fun entertainment throughout the entire run time , but it’s never exhausting. Perfectly paced, excellent action , fun characters . I had a smile on my face quite a few times when watching this the second go round

Five stars……..actually no……. Six !

Speaking of Hong Kong classics that not everyone may agree is a great (or even good) movie ... any chance of Book Of Heroes getting a decent release any time soon? I've got it on VCD but nothing to watch it on at this point! I'm not saying it's right up there with Project A or Millionaires' Express but Book Of Heroes is still kind of fun with Yukari Oshima giving the action scenes all she had & goofy, slapsticky style humor to boot, I'd like to see it get some love from someone like Eureka! or 88 Films.

Perhaps still with Fortune Star but have a feeling no one is asking for Book Of Heroes. Not to the extent where a release on those labels would be warranted. Not a safe enough bet I think.

But I would pre-order if it happened.

By the way, how do I insert "@username" in grey bold in my text?

Type the @ symbol, then start typing the member's name that you want to tag and a dropdown of possible choices will appear below it as you type the name. Click on the name you want, then hit space (the name will now be a link to notify that person that they've been mentioned), and continue typing your sentence.

When I do this on my phone, be it that I leave a space or not, each time I write something after the member's name, it write the @name twice ! And if I want to remove the second time it's mentioned, it removes both !!

Yes, I know, my phone (or me ?) is special... :monk_laughing:

I'm not as big a fan of MAGIC CRYSTAL as @HeavenSword, but I do enjoy it a lot. It's pure entertainment with (to echo his sentiments) excellent action. Cynthia Rothrock pulls some stunning shapes, and Richard Norton is also at the top of his game. I'll definitely be picking this one up.

If you've seen any of Chu Yen-Ping's films (FANTASY MISSION FORCE, FIRE DRAGON, ISLAND OF FIRE) you know that you're likely going to get a frenetic mess of a film with some extremely OTT action and stunts. For me, his work ranges from "What the Hell is this nonsense?" to funny and thrilling, oftentimes all within the same film. In my... er, book, A BOOK OF HEROES fits into this mixed category. It's got some top-notch action in it, but other elements that barely feel competently done. Would I want it if it came out on Blu-ray? Yes. :blush

I have vcd too, terrible movie except action.in book there is same kid as in Magic Crystal he was impressive for a brat. I would buy Book too but it is not a movie hoping to get released. There are loads of better flicks with Yukari.

I think I have a DVD-R copy of the VCD of BOOK.

The child actor, "Bin Bin" Wen Chao-Yu, was only 6 years old when MAGIC and BOOK were filmed (he was also in 3 other films that same year). He retired from making films at the age of 12 after doing a dozen films but returned to the screen in 2015 for the comedy SORRY, BABY. I haven't seen that nor any photos of it, which made me think- it's a strange phenomenon when you only see someone as a child in a movie, so they are forever young in your mind. But actually, little "Bin Bin will be turning 44 at the end of this month. :nodding

Thank you Bruce for your positive words about "Book Of Heroes". Even if ChillyChong's critical words are not entirely unjustified, in my opinion the film stands out from the average HK martial arts actioner. The reason for this is the really excellently staged battle scenes. And there really are a lot of them. In addition to Yukari Oshima, Elsa Yang (we'll soon see her in "Challenge Of The Lady Ninja" from Error4444) but especially Pauline Lan Hsin-Mei can show what they can do. Even if I repeat myself, here is the link to the fight scenes again. Fantastic stuff.

The other movie with fantastic fights from Pauline Lan Hsin-Mei I know of is "Funny Family":

For once I would agree to a bundle with the two films, Eureka. :smile

Well said, @lastninja.

I haven't seen FUNNY FAMILY.

Fun fact! -

On the Vinegar Syndrome release of 'Magic Crystal' Frank Djeng brought along his old Tai Seng audio commentary buddy Ric Meyers for the ride.

For his audio commentary on the 88 Films release of 'Magic Crystal', it seems like he's already regretting his decision, and the commentary track is back to just Djeng by himself.
