Porn movies don't count!

Seriously 16 movies! Most I've done is 3 I think.

I feel so inadequate.

Move out the way! @Super Ninja coming through!

I swear there was no porn, we were more into nunsploitation at the time :angel Might have been one or two pinku films, had to have a few under 90 minutes in case we're behind schedule.

FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION... Arrow rereleased them later down the line in October of 2019 with the color corrected.

Do you have any source for this? I know Arrow re-released the set, but I've never heard of them colour correcting it...

Have the Female Prisoner Scorpion set in the orange box. It has the same color problems as the first release. Still have the german RapidEyeMovies DVD Box and here the colors and the picture quality is so much better. Ok the Arrow has higher resolution and it is more sharp but the blue tint and the too high contrast is a killer especially for part 2 and 3. Inmo the worst boxset Arrow has ever done.

I managed to get through the first one. Changing the tint did nowt. So I just had to sit the blue filter.

That day would have to have way more then just 24 hours :tongueout Once I watched 16 movies in two days with my ex and it took a good schedule to pull it off.

Even if that marathon happened within a week, that's still impressive. How much time we talking about here @KUNG FU BOB?

I think I watched 2 or 3 a day. I can't remember for exactly how long. I had the flu and it became pneumonia. I remember my wife set up the living room for me to sleep in (I didn't want to get her sick, and our couch has a pull-out bed) and put one disc in my old DVD recorder (which also plays DVDs) and another disc in my all-region player so I wouldn't have to get up as much to change discs. I felt horrible, but those Zatoichi movies were all great. I'd originally collected them on VHS whenever I could find them (buying them when I could, but mostly they were rental-only tapes that I copied), so I saw them all in random order. So this was the first time I ever saw them all in chronological order, and there were some cool reoccurring characters and little callbacks to earlier films and characters.

@Super Ninja sixteen in two days? Damn!

The most films I ever saw theatrically (rushing across town between theaters) was during the Philadelphia Film Festival one year, and that was five if I recall correctly. At home... hmmm, maybe ten in one day. I got my own place when I was a teenager, didn't sleep a lot, had a pretty cool videotape collection, and at one point worked for myself. So I might work incredibly hard for three 15-hour days, then screw around watching movies all day on my "days off".

@Takuma I cannot recall where I read it, but now, based on your post and @kuenfist's I stand corrected. Sorry if I misinformed anyone, but I did try to be transparent by saying "if I'm not mistaken" and asking "Can anyone confirm that their second release of the set had better colors?" I'll edit/add a note to my initial post so people aren't misinformed by it.

Thanks, @kuenfist. I'm glad we have the proper facts now thanks to you two, gentlemen. I'm also less sour than I was, mistakenly thinking that the rerelease was much better than the one I bought.

Aw, sorry. It made a substantial difference for me on my TV.

Did you dig the movie? Some people say the second one is the best.

It's a real shame this blu ray set from Arrow can't even capitalize on its inherent resolution advantage due to contrast being blown out. Look at the dvd on top & you can clearly see the "Toshiba" visible on the sign on the far right but on the Arrow blu ray it's just a mess.

Yikes! That's unfortunate.

But man, we have really derailed this thread! All of that is about Eureka and Arrow releases. I apologize for my part in this track-jumping thread within a thread, dear readers.

I'm so far behind in getting/pre-ordering all their new releases. I want (need?) the following, but just can't do it right now:

TAXI HUNTER

LAST BLOOD

FIGHT BACK TO SCHOOL- Trilogy

LONG ARM OF THE LAW- 1 & 2

THE POSTMAN FIGHTS BACK

MAGIC CRYSTAL

THE INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS

MAGIC COP

BLUE JEAN MONSTER

THE MEDALLION

and especially

LAST HERO IN CHINA

TWIN DRAGONS!

There was a while there when a lot of people were complaining that 88 was only releasing Jackie Chan stuff. Well, if you look at that list, that's a hell of a variety of tasty Hong Kong cinema titles. And I didn't even mention... ZOMBI HOLOCAUST and HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD, and on 4K! Huh? Wow. I freaking love this company.

If I'm remembering correctly, that is a result of the elements that Toei provided, low-contrast 35 mm prints, which have the contrast level  pretty much baked-in.  Now the color timing of the films is something that Arrow could, and should, have adjusted (but even this would have had its limits.)

3 was my standard when I was in colleague. Now my philosophy is different, less films, more research. Really appreciating a movie takes more than just watching it.

I lost this round, my PR is eight. KFB winns.

Just gonna say this and then I'm done derailing the thread :happy This reminded me of my festival adventures. Back at the time when I was low on cash, I couldn't afford a full ten days at FEFF in Italy. Me and my friends would get our accreditations and book our stay for six or seven days, skipping the first weekend of the festival. Then the schedule came out and it turned out two or three movies we really wanted to see were showing on that first weekend. We didn't have enough to afford the extra nights. But I managed to persuade my friends to go anyway. The idea was to squat, but we ended up sleeping at the train station in our sleeping bags. I don't have to tell you what type of crowd you can find at a train station at around three o'clock in the morning. The following year just one friend accompanied me on this adventure but we didn't make it, we decided to get a room for the second night. Skip buying two Blu-rays at the festival shop and you can get a warm bed and a good night's sleep. Anyways, our love for Asian cinema was really put to the test at those times :laugh

Yes, there is something for almost everyone unless one is only to old skool kung fu or drama. Won`t buy all but at least 6 essential releases there. Perhaps more, when standard of Twin Dragons is released. But it was fact there was time amount of Chan releases was too much, it made slate appear boring. After he was more or less done it was Samo time(although it was by competitor), Biao was after that, And Rothrock then seems Jet Li is getting attention now(Hell, I am not complaining I like most Rothrock and Li movies). But variety is always great thing in release schedule.

But one kind of movies we haven`t seen enough. Stuff like Retreat of the godfather and Dragon Family, triad/crime flicks set in present day and which have heavy emphasis on martial arts.

I've got 88's old edition without a slipcover. Can't remember if it lacked commentary or not. No reason for me to double dip.

As far as I can recall 88's original release of this has a problem with the aspect ratio. I think it was squeezed horizontally. The new release is a new 2K restoration from the camera negative and really looks beautiful. It includes the original English mono audio, an Audio Commentary with Kim Newman and Barry Forshaw, an additional Audio Commentary with Frank Djeng and FJ DeSanto, a double-sided poster, and a book with some great writing. This is a vast improvement over the initial release of this title, and likely the best this film will ever look.

I've been waiting for this one to hit US retailers for WEEKS. Apparently, there was an issue on the UK side of things so sites like Diabolik haven't received their stock yet. ARGH!!

Damn, why can't I pre-order "Blue Jean Monster" along with "The Inspector Wears Skirts"? Both will be released on December 4th. Here I could finally save on postage costs. It's anything but cheap from the UK. :wondering
