I never said that did I?  I know most action scenes in Hong Kong are undercranked to some degree or another. I said in my view Donnie Yen goes to the extreme with it.

Get a grip. You pulling people up for a small spelling mistake?

Bra, you need to chill.  This what we do is make jokes here, you can't take it that seriously here.

We are seeing great releases from 88 films this 2023, but I kinda feel kung fu shapes sub genre has been the least cultivated one this year. Not that I´m complaining, but @Irongod2112, could you tease us with any enigmatic kinda "keep the faith in Shaolin" sentence or whatever? Or really no releases on sight?

But that's what you're implying when saying that "nobody does it more" and "going to the extreme". And this is based on what... Fist of Fury and his earlier movies? And that automatically makes him a heavy user of undercranking in every other movie based on just some productions? 🤷‍♂️

You're not seeing the big picture here. Watch any Jackie, Sammo, Bill and Jet Li movies for obvious undercranking. Everybody in Hong Kong action cinema has undercranked their action scenes.

Okay gents, please agree to disagree.

You've both acknowledged that undercranking is common in Hong Kong cinema. Great. @Gung Fu Movie Guy thinks Donnie Yen uses it way more than others, @DiP disagrees. Fine. Let's either move on, or continue to to discuss it, but politely. There's nothing gained for anyone if either of you reacts harshly to the other. Trust me, this is best; I've been in a relationship with a very dangerous woman for 27 years and I'm still alive to tell you guys this method works.

Looks great in a picture frame I must say. Did you buy the frames from say Amazon or made them yourself or found a company that makes bespoke frames?

So I had a look on Amazon. There's quite a few different companies. Is this the brand you bought @Graysman I avoided the sponsor and went for the highest rank along with cheap. £7 for 1.

The frame looks thicker than your images.

Cool, I'll be getting this. Are the black cases thinner than the blue ones? If they are it's not going to fit alongside my others, why did they change cases?

I assume the black slimmer cases was to help the combined Region A and B releases. These were also used in the Tiger Cage boxset.

Not sure which case will be used for this release.

So in Taxi Hunter, screenwriter Leung Hung-wah says there is confusion regarding whether this film is CAT III or CAT IIb due to one particular scene. The scene in question is...

Spoiler

when Anthony Wong kills the potential Taxi Driver rapist by putting his head in the door and rolling the window up thereby suffocating him, the laserdisc apparently shows this in more graphic fashion...

Tony Hung-wah says that scene is longer on the laserdisc and received a CAT III rating while the theatrical version cut that scene shorter and received it's IIb rating. So is this version by 88films not uncut due to it being the theatrical version? Why couldn't they just add the extra few seconds of that scene to make it fully uncut?

Not a big fan of the movie but it has one of Jet Li's best final fight scenes (the overall action is good too). Plus it will be a huge upgrade over the HK bluray in terms of video, audio, subtitles, and extras.

'undercranking is shooting film at a lower frame rate then the standard 24 FPS. First time I ever saw it was when keystone cops was shown on tv when I was a kid. No one does it more then Donnie Yen. Saw the Hi-yah trailer for 'Fist Of Fury' no wonder I've never watched the vcd boxset I have of the series.

I like Donnie's Fist of Fury. The fights are pretty cool despite the undercracking

First half of the show has good action, particularly Donnie Yen vs Hung Yan-Yan. The second half is a mixed bag.

Yen could've dampened the aping of Bruce Lee (it's alright in some scenes but terrible in others), and the undercranking because it ruins and takes away potential of the fight choreography of some scenes actually being good.

Same, I enjoyed The Fist of Fury TV Series.  Legend of The Wolf he goes nuts with the undercranking, same with Iron Monkey.
