I've always wondering, watching old-school Kung Fu movies - What was the purpose of people wearing a rope tied around them, often intricately, like you see in this screenshot from Shaolin Mantis? Is it actually a preventative measure against bladed weapons? Some sort of strengthening/conditioning thing? Just a good way to have a long length of rope handy? Shibari-adjacent kink?
