Read the entire favorable film review of Man From Kathmandu here -  https://filmcombatsyndicate.com/the-man-from-kathmandu-soul-searches-with-fistful-of-hope/  Excerpts below:

"The man From Kathmandu takes a staunch look into the soul of an individual rather than telling the typical straightforward hero story that we've seen before.  Invariably, what we get is different kind of action film that rewardingly laces itself together with the kind of smartly-crafted Hong Kong-style martial arts action.  Manuel has earned his notoriety for while doing shortfilms in Puerto Rico.  Assembling a small team of stunt cohorts from Puerto Rico, Spain and local Nepali talent, Manuel and co-coordinator Dani Medina showcase their ingenuity as a functioning unit from storyboarding to choreography and cinematography, and all done in a back-to-back period of just eighteen days."

"In a world rife with millions of problems faced by billions of people, the subject of terrorism will always be fair game to cinema.  What matters is how an artist conducts his/her visionary means and purposes through such subject matter, and for this, Gakyil [director Pema Dhyondup Gakyil] invokes a well-thought, considerate agile, often compelling action drama that defies filmic norms with the best of intentions.  Moreover, it helps greatly that he's done so here with the likes of Jose Manuel, someone who has come a long way from his shortfilm roots in Vega Baja to now being recognized, concordantly and without refutation, as a versatile, worldclass talent."

The Man from Katmandu (2019) starring Jose Manuel, Anna Sharma, Gulshan Grover

Fight choreographer: Jose Manuel

JM plays Faisal, a Muslim Nepalese man who returns to Katmandu in search of his missing father. He is actually being misled by a clandestine contact who means to use him as an assassin. However, Faisal is brought into conflict with not only his Hindu roots, but a powerful man with political aims, who happens to target love interest Namrata (AS) and Faisal's grandfather.

Some of the synopses for this movie cast it as a superhero flick. It's not. It's a straight up action film. What kind of action film? An homage to HK actioners of the 80's. This was a pleasant surprise. Forget the plot. The movie does a great job of keeping a nicely paced action beat. And the choreography is solid and captured well. Not shaky cam, no quick cuts or hyper-editing. For a first attempt at starring and choreographing, JM does a good job showcasing his talent. The fights have a nice rhythm and good flow. My only qualm is that he gets a little repetitive with some of his combos. They show up in every fight, a couple of times more than once. There's not a lot of flashy kicks or tricking. He works with a good stunt team, and they all sell the fights. The film ends with a set up for a sequel, and I hope it gets made. From some of the reviews I read on IMDb (which are very mixed), this didn't do well over there, as there was concern that the depiction of corruption in the government and police could hurt tourism. (That's everywhere, people. Get over it.) Another plus, there's no ridiculous song & dance number.

This is on both Tubi & Amazon Prime. Definitely check this one out. I'm running down the dvd.
