Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted July 13, 2020 Author Member Share Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) Always thought some of the sets in Five Element ninja looked a little worse for wear, but still some good ones in there. Love Gordon's little cave with vines and a pond at the very back of Shaolin temple in 8 Diagram Pole Fighter. Fu Sheng in a moonlit forest from Avenging Eagle. Luk Ah Choi's training hut has it all in Challenge of the Masters. Bendy tree trunk bridge from Clans of Intrigue. Winding stairs and sunset graveyard from A Deadly Secret. Forest clearing and shrine from Golden Swallow. Some classic set design from Invincible Shaolin... featuring the famous yellow carpet. Jade Tiger sets are absolutely stunning. Mud hole at the old master's hut and the mongol camp from Marco Polo. Decrepit training camp from Monkey Kung Fu. Superb sets from Secret Service of the Imperial Court. Icicles in the courtyard from Shadow Whip. Edited July 13, 2020 by TibetanWhiteCrane

Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted July 13, 2020 Author Member Share Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) Oh, Descendant of the Sun takes the cake and eats it. I know it's a wacked out, cheese fest, HK remake of Superman, but the entertainment level is through the roof and there is never a dull moment, let alone an uninteresting frame in the whole movie. Weirdly never mentioned when Chor Yuen faves are thrown about. Yes, at some point. Edited July 13, 2020 by TibetanWhiteCrane

Most, like FMS, will probably take up an entire page per film in this thread.
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted July 15, 2020 Author Member Share Posted July 15, 2020 A few stylish sets from Angel With the Iron Fists. That board room in the villains lair is a straight rip from Thunderball.

Cuz that was my memory..... but I rewatched it yesterday, and found it hard going this time. There's no need for a breezy spy flick to be almost two hours long. It just draaaaags, so I don't know if it's really the second one I remember instead. Lily Ho is very cute and cool in spy mode, but it's just too long and stuffed with boring filler. So be warned. Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted July 18, 2020 Author Member Share Posted July 18, 2020 A few memorable ones from The Duel. A pretty deep one of a train station, that I don't remember seeing in other films. City outskirts in the fog. I have a certain fondness for the republic era/early 20th century style street sets.

Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted July 19, 2020 Author Member Share Posted July 19, 2020 Some early Chor Yuen visual treat in The Bastard, sadly slightly marred by non anamorphic transfers only.
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted August 2, 2020 Author Member Share Posted August 2, 2020 (edited) A few from Opium and the Kung Fu Master Nice folds and air bubbles in the sky there Really like the plum blossom pole training set, wish it was used more. The town square set used for a bunch of 80's Shaw period flicks. Edited August 2, 2020 by TibetanWhiteCrane
Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted September 9, 2020 Author Member Share Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Some really cool (and some cheap looking) sets from the wackfest that is Holy Flame of the Martial World. Love this visual... a capsized ship in the middle of a forest clearing. The mysterious cave that looks more like something from outer space. A rather hoakey looking lair where a lot of weirdness goes down. The temple ruins setting the scene for one of the most crazy Shaw showdowns ever. Member TibetanWhiteCrane Posted September 11, 2020 Author Member Share Posted September 11, 2020 Granted, Convict Killer is a bit of a dark and dour affair, but as always with Chor Yuen, the set design and the cinematography thereof is second to none.
