Guest Beat TG
--Johnnie To to helm "The Red Circle"-- "In a piece of news from Berlin it looks as though Hong Kong legend Johnnie To is set to make his English language debut with the film "The Red Circle" for the French StudioCanal. The film is a remake of Jean-Pierre Melville's 1970's crime drama "Le Cercle Rouge" and was originally to be redone by John Woo, who remains as producer, along with "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner as executive producer. The screenplay is currently being tweaked by To with filming scheduled for this summer. Alain Delon may feature, as he has recently been quoted as confirming that he is to collaborate with To, though the cast has yet to be officially announced. Woo is to be involved with a series of other French remakes, including "Honor Among Thieves", "Adieu Lami", "Max" and "The Prone Gunman", apparently in the capacity of 'mentor'. StudioCanal have been becoming more involved with Asian film makers of late, having agreed to finance and sell Wong Kar-wai's "My Blueberry Nights" and "The Lady From Shanghai"."
