What is the correct title for this Drunken Monkey movie?

Duel to the Death

Duel to the Death

The version i rented long time ago was called Monkey Kung Fu, this video calls it Drunken Monkey. I was trying to find the proper imdb page for it. I had thought i had found it but i think i was on the wrong track again. I had made myself a list of my favorite movies and i wanted to add it. Also here is a link to a forum discussion about it. It may be indeed called Monkey Kung Fu but maybe imdb is all screwed up. But not sure one way or the other

There seems to be two main titles:

The Drunken Monkey (on-screen title) and Monkey Kung-Fu (posters and lobbies).

The HKFA also lists it under the latter title.

I guess both are correct.

Relying on imdb for anything related to old school kung-fu is like relying on Ric Meyers for, well, anything related to old school kung-fu.

Yup!  Imdb messed up Henry Yu Yung's page.  It lists his birth date as 1949, but has him starring in a film in 1948.  Guess he must have been credited in a film while still in his mother's womb.

@ShawAngela was this french edition letterboxed? That film would greatly benefit from a wide presentation I think...

Well, I don't remember. I don't even remember if I have it in dvd format or in VHS format.

If I have a while, I'll search it, but maybe you'll have the answer only in a few months, sorry...

Of course you can, the title is really Monkey fist, floating snake.

I first saw in French language as Ninja contre cobra d'or, and if you look on hkcinemagic site, you'll see that it's the real English title, together with also the alternate title Monkey kung fu.

It sometimes happens that imdb isn't very reliable on some titles or cast in movies...

Duel to the Death

To add to an IMDB list the movie needs to be on IMDB. I guess i could add Stroke of Death and correct it in my notes. Sure i could make a list anywhere, but i was having fun on imdb. :cool

I think it somehow (and erroneously) got integrated into the Stroke of Death (1979) entry, since both films have similar alternate titles. The IMDB entry for Stroke of Death lists Chan Muk-Chuen as an actor in it, although the HKMDB doesn't (Chan was the lead of Monkey Fist, Floating Snake).

Omni Dragon

It has at least 4 (English) names that I'm aware of

THE DRUNKEN MONKEY (I've seen this use for the on screen Chinese credits)

MONKEY FIST FLOATING SNAKE (I've seen this used for the on screen English (only) credits)

The other 2 names I've only personally seen on promotional material

MONKEY KUNG-FU

INVINCIBLE MONKEY FIST

I came across that one as well. Problem is there is no imdb page for a movie with that name.
