Member SkemeRichards Posted May 6, 2020 Member Share Posted May 6, 2020 About 10 years ago, I did an interview with Johnnyray Gasca who was responsible for starting the Kung Fu craze of VHS bootlegs. We discuss how he originally got the prints, how he distributed them and what came next which was the second wave of bootlegs from fellow collector and Tom Fardy who ran Venom Video and was responsible for discovering more rare and deeper Shaw Brother titles than those released earlier. You can check both interviews out at Nostalgia King. https://nostalgiaking.com/2017/04/20/diggin-kung-fu-with-johnnyray-gasca/ https://nostalgiaking.com/2017/10/01/diggin-kung-fu-with-tom-fardy/

SMK
Definitely great articles/interviews that give great insight into how the kung fu movie craze was at the time in New York.
Member AlbertV Posted June 30, 2020 Member Share Posted June 30, 2020 This brings back memories. During my college days, I had visited the 43rd Chamber a few times and went to this one shop on 42nd and 8th that was a convenient store in front but they would have some of the bootleg VHS kung fu tapes in their windows, selling them 2 for $9. I used to go there every other week with an empty backpack and end up filling it up. It got to the point where the clerk of the store, I think his name was Adam recognized me and every time I go there, he'd welcome me. Of course it was a convenient store up front, the middle of the store had the bootleg kung fu films and the back was the porn videos. When I went back to NYC in 2016, I remembered the address and it's now just a simple NYC gift shop. Great interviews and memories
