I asked Ray Park about Marvel Comics' Iron Fist movie

I guess that the Marvel Comics character called "Iron Fist" is not that well known. I have heard of Iron Fist and also Ghost Rider, though. I even have some old GR comic books from the 1970's. So I'm kind of surprised that the new GR movie is a hit, just because GR and also IF don't seem to be that well known as comic books. I think I also read that somebody said the same thing about GR not being famous, especially compared to the big guys(Spiderman, X-Men, etc.).

anyway, about the "IF" movie: I was able to ask Ray Park(of Star Wars Ep. 1 and "X-Men") about that. I kind of forgot what he said, but he might have said that the script is being worked on right now. I do remember Ray thanking me for the interest or for just asking about the IF movie, however. In case you're wondering, I asked Ray about the Iron Fist movie during his appearance at the Shrine Comic Convention about 2 months ago.

Also, based on www.cityonfire.com., it looks like the Green Hornet movie will finally start production. I thought i'd tell you, especially for the "Bruce/Kato" fans and have seen the reruns of the 1960's Green H TV show.

lol, I am not holding my breath on THAT one. If it happens, great, I hope they don't modernize it to death and stay true.

Iron Fist is probably better remembered by thirty-and-fourtysomethings... It wasn't the best of the lot back then but it did have a certain style that appealed to me.

It would be cool to see a film, but again, i hope they don't commercialise it to death.

Iron Fist is currently Marvel's top new non-Civil War related series. The first three issues have sold out and caused them to make special second printings. I think the possiblity of an Iron Fist movie is MUCH better now than it was a couple of years ago.

I think I also read that somebody said the same thing about GR not being famous,
Indeed, he is a minor character in the Marvel Universe and while his 70's series was lackluster, his second series during the 90s caught on fire ('cuse the pun) - though it too burned out (ouch!) after roughly the same amount of issues. I believe the second series did well for a while because MCG (and comics in general) were into the whole anti-hero thing (Spawn, Punisher, Wolverine, etc.)

I was able to ask Ray Park (of Star Wars Ep. 1 and X-Men) about that. I kind of forgot what he said, but he might have said that the script is being worked on right now.
H-huh?

Well, at least we know Park is still attached. Its my opinion that such a film would be better if they teamed him up with his old partner (Luke Cage). Fist always had a bit of a snapper-head attitude and it would've been interesting to have Luke play opposite of him. Besides, buddy films are always fun to watch. John Singleton should have looked into this instead of a solo Luke project.

Way back in 1974...

Either one of those characters alone can't carry the film these days... you'd need both to pull a crowd into the theater. And you should have both, I think a buddy film has a lot more going for it than a solo film does.

Ghost Rider is a good example of this.

An Iron Fist movie has been in the works for almost 3 years now. I wouldn't be surprised if we see one within the next 2 years.

I would much rather see an animated feature like the last 2 Ultimate Avengers or Iron Man DVDs than a movie with actors. They could have Luke Cage and Master of Kung Fu in it also...

I agree, I think Power Man & Iron Fist together would make a bigger hit! Although, I was suprised with the success of Ghost Rider, even though I liked the comic in the 70's, I would've never believed it would've came off the way it did.

I was excited about the animated release of the Ultimate Avengers and Iron Man, but was very disappointed with the changes man from the 70's version of the comics (I guess I'm stuck in the past!).

Hulk picking up Thor's hammer and throwing it him knocking him out, almost made me eject the DVD!

And what they did with the original Iron Man story and villian Mandrid.... no comment.

Bring on the live action of Iron Fist!

lol I am stuck there too. What passes for 'drawing skills' in the past decade really does not impress me one bit - and comics were my LIFE in the late 70's to early 80's. Now, I honestly can't be bothered...

But I would pay to see Power Man & Iron Fist, The Movie.

I take it you are a Byrne & Perez fan! There was lots of bogus art back then too. There are some really good artists out there now (Jim Lee for one). So I take it my idea for the animated Power man & Iron Fist with special guest Master of Kung Fu movie isnt to popular here :o

As far as the Marvel animated movies not being great,no they're not, but compared to the live action super hero movies (with exception to the first Spider Man) they are much better! As an X-Men fan I found them all CRAP! I have my hopes up for the Surfer..I hope they dont screw that up.

Don't get me wrong, iron flag. I'm a glutten for punishment! I'll still support the animated movies, the extras are worth the price of the DVD alone. I hope the Dr. Strange animation is good.

I know what you mean about the X-men films, but I did enjoy the last 2. I thought Alan Cumming did a great job playing Night Crawler. I met Alan Cumming many times (nice guy) and feel he's a great actor.

Considering that the Shang-Chi movie's been in the works for almost twice that amount of time, I doubt we'll ever see either of them.

lol you called it... but I also like a lot of the 'golden era' DC and Marvel artists too. It's kinda like anime, or the current crop of cartoons: When it got all angular with very little or no

curves, it lost my attention.

I dont like that comic art these days relies way too heavily on digital coloring. It seems as if the modern penciller is more like an outline artist.

I used to be involved in the comic book business in the early 90's and it was around that time that the changing of the old guard occured. The change from traditional to digital was taking the comic world by storm.

Don't get me wrong, i do enjoy the occasional digital comic book from time to time... it is pretty, but i often find myself just going back to some of the old classics more often because the stories were better and the art was more soulfull.

I would love to see a full length movie about Iron Man because he is a personal favortie.

The same with Deathstroke the Terminator, Grendel, Poison Elves, and Cry for Dawn. I doubt these comics would be converted to movies... would be nice though.

The thing that kills me these days isn't the art...Its the prices!!! :eek When I first started collecting they were 25 cents. Also, so many titles, wtf! I cant count how many X-Men, Batman, Avengers etc. Dog Paw, have you seen the Iron Man animated movie? I thought it was pretty good (though I didn't like the ending at all)

Im going to rent the Iron Man animated movie next time i go to Blockbuster. I love Iron Man. He was always my favorite main stream kind of comic character when i was a kid.

I hear you on the prices and the titles. I too remember the 25 cent days and at the comic store they always had a bin where you could pick out 5 comics for a quarter. It was usually stuff like Captain Atom but still.

The titles can be confusing, and theres no way im paying 4$ for a new comic, unless it has potential to go up in price in a few years. I used to collect like crazy but because of some of these issues i havent collected in a decade.

What are you reading these days? Whats good to read? I dont care about the art... i want a great story.

The first X-Men movie was good. X2 was a slight letdown, X3 wasn't that good. I forgot if I liked the first live action Spider Man movie(I'll watch the DVd). "Spider Man 2" was a letdown. I thought that "Superman"('78 Christopher Reeve), Batman Forever, The Crow, and The Mask were all good.

Comic book movies that I didn't like(even though lots of people seem to like some on this list) were:

"Batman and Robin"

"Blade 2"

"Batman Begins"(just okay and also a letdown)

When I first started collecting they were 25 cents. Also, so many titles, wtf! I cant count how many X-Men, Batman, Avengers etc.

I know what you mean. When I first started collecting the comics(mid 1970's), they were around 35 cents. I was even able to buy Uncanny X-Men #95 at cover price back then. I still have that comic too(3rd appearance of group w/ Wolverine, Storm, etc.), believe it or not.
