What would you say are the 4 most important and significant Shaw Brothers films of all time?

Without thinking too hard on it my first instinct would be.

Come Drink With Me

One Armed Swordsman

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Five Deadly Venoms

I'm not sure though. I think most people would have King Boxer on the list.

Five Venoms might have inspired some avenues of western pop culture but was a mere bleep on the radar in Asia. I would def swap that out with King Boxer.

This is a great point and I most definitely agree. Great list there.

I agree with the original four posted by Iron Leopard and  would keep the Five Deadly Venoms in simply because it's the greatest recruiting film for the newer generation of fans (36th Chambers as well).  The most difficult spot would be choosing between One Armed Swordsman or King Boxer.   After these four films are chiseled in stone, my afterthought would be-- I can't believe the films starring David Chiang and Ti Lung were left out.

Come Drink With Me - One of the best Martial Arts movie there is.

King Boxer (5 Fingers of Death) - To me it's the movie that launch the Martial Arts craze (sorry ETD)..

The Boxer from Shantung - One of the best rags to riches Martial Arts movie.

The Flying Guillotine (Sorry The 36th Chamber of Shaolin but this one is taking your place) - the movie with the most memorable weapon in a Martial Arts film.

Why does no one ever mention "The Chinese Boxer"?

I think if the roles were flipped a bit and Lo Lieh was the protagonist...then yeah.
