Member AlbertV Posted January 30, 2020 Member Share Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) Currently the #1 box office champ in South Korea, this film is based on the 1979 assassination of Korean president Park Jung-Hee, a former military general who gained control and took over as the country's leader after a military coup d'etat in 1961. Park was assassinated by Kim Jae-Kyu, the director of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. Lee Byung-hun plays KCIA director Kim with Lee Sung-min playing Park. The film made its U.S. debut last week in Buena Park's CGV Cinemas and will be released in L.A. tomorrow through German-based distributor capelight Pictures. I saw it yesterday and it is quite fascinating to see these events that (could have or could not have...its never really known) lead up to the assassination of Park. https://worldfilmgeek.com/2020/01/29/the-man-standing-next-2020/ Edited January 30, 2020 by AlbertV
