Member AlbertV Posted November 8, 2019 Member Share Posted November 8, 2019 Now that it is official that he will be included in the 2022 sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, let's take a look at the Japanese Spider-Man series, which began a 3-year partnership between Marvel and Japan's Toei Company. The series stars Shinji Todo as Takeru Yamashiro, a motocross racer who finds a shooting star and his father, a space archaelogist, is killed during his investigation. Takeru discovers the shooting star is a spaceship called The Marveller. Upon his arrival, Takeru meets Garia, the last survivor of the destroyed Planet Spider. For 400 years, Garia has attempted to stop the ones responsible for destroying his home, Professor Monster and his Cross Army. As he is dying, Garia injects some of his blood in Takeru and gives him a bracelet which gives him both the Spider Protector (his suit) and Spider-String (their version of his webbing). As the heroic Spider-Man, Takeru possesses a car known as the GP-7 and in addition, the Marveller has the ability to change into the mecha warrior Leopordon. With his newfound powers, Takeru as Spider-Man faces off against Professor Monster and the Cross Army. The series ran from May 1978 to March 1979 and its success led to Marvel's attempt to give Toei an adaptation of Captain America that would evolve in the now official third Super Sentai Series, Battle Fever J. The series was officially the beginning of the S3 but Himitsu Sentai Goranger and JAKQ Dengekitai would be considered as part of the S3 in 1994 by Toei. Marvel and Toei would collaborate on two more Super Sentai Series, 1980's Denshi Sentai Denjiman and Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan.
