My friend in China, who has been so helpful in translating dialogue for some of those Cathay films has now found Evergreen, the novel that contains the stories of Fang Sai Yuk, Hung Hsi Kuan and Hu Wei Chien.

The translation is the usual Google nonsense, but if you are dedicated (or really, really good at reading archaic Chinese) you can muddle through some of it.

PS, I have been told that it is from the Emperor Chien Long's Voyages, not necessarily Evergreen. Either way, it has many chapters regarding Fong Sai Yuk, etc. I have to wonder if these stories were cribbed from each other. No offense, but the Chinese are not that big on copyright or plagiarism, and also, these may have been common folk tales. I still believe these guys were all fictional characters to lend respectability to certain schools of martial arts, some that were used by the Triad, etc.
