Member chazgower01 Posted June 24, 2019 Member Share Posted June 24, 2019 Gone Baby Gone (USA, 2007) 4/5 Movies about kids being kidnapped are always tough to watch, and this one is no exception. There's a lot to like about this movie - Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, the Beantown Setting - and at least one thing not to like - Casey Affleck as the lead. But I thought about this movie long after it had finished, and give it credit for that - First time Director Ben Affleck (who I guess resisted the urge to be IN the movie) could've taken the easy way out, but he didn't and in that, we may not agree with his real life brother's character decision, but it certainly makes us think about why. It's gritty, and ugly and heart wrenching at times - there are some ugly people in this - not just in appearance, but in actions and the rocks get turned over and the underneath exposed for us to see in all their grotesque behavior. The movie could've used a real lead - to me, that's its major flaw - but its still an engaging piece of work.
