"Warner Bros. Japan announced on Friday that two new live-action film adaptations of Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin manga will premiere in summer 2020.  The adaptations mark the final chapter of the live-action film series.  The first part covers Juji Kizu no Nazo (Mystery of the Cross-Shaped Scar), and the second part is Saikyo no Teki - Enishi (Most Terrifying Enemy - Enishi)."  Takeru Satoh returns as Himura Kenshin and Keishi Otomo will direct.  The official Japanese website is http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/rurouni-kenshin2020/   News from https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-04-11/rurouni-kenshin-gets-final-2-live-action-films-in-summer-2020/.145614

"The 'Final Chapter' will adapt the manga's final 'Jinchu' arc, including the episodes also told in the 1999 OVA 'Tsuioku-hen/Trust & Betrayal' about the past story of Kenshin as Hitokiri Battousai during the final years of the Bakumatsu era, explaining the origins of his cross-shaped scar.  The official title for each part will be announced at a later date.  The shooting already began in November 2018, and is scheduled to last for seven months until May 2019 in various locations across Japan, including Kyoto, Nara, SHiga, Mie, Hyogo, Kumamoto, Hiroshima, Tochigi, Saitama, and Shizuoka."  From https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2019/04/11/rurouni-kenshin-live-action-film-to-return-with-two-part-final-chapter-in-summer-2020

This announcement has me more excited that most martial arts movie news. I love the original trilogy, so to get two more films is pretty much a dream come true.

Always loved the manga series (and its current continuation), and the first trilogy, so this news has me stoked.

I'm glad Takeru Satoh is coming back as Kenshin. He was excellent in the trilogy. Can't wait to see how these two come out.

The seven-month production shot in 43 locations, including in Kyoto, Nara, Shiga, Mie, Hyogo, Kumamoto, Hiroshima, Tochigi, Saitama, Shizuoka, Osaka, and Nagano Prefectures... The final chapter consists of two films that will debut in summer 2020.  The first part covers Juji Kizu no Nazo (Mystery of the Cross-Shaped Scar), and the second part is Saikyo no Teki - Enishi (Most Terrifying Enemy - Enishi)."

I'm confident that these will be great.

Due to Covid-19, Japanese theatrical release date of the two final live action movies has been pushed back to the Japanese holiday Golden Week, between late April and early May 2021.  The official Japanese site is https://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/rurouni-kenshin2020/   More info and cast photos at https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-05-27/live-action-rurouni-kenshin-final-chapter-films-delayed-to-spring-2021-due-to-covid-19/.159971

As a side note, I did not know, until today, that the creator of Rurouni Kenshin was a fan of child porn.

Sadly, Nobuhiro Watsuki practically got off the hook once he paid a fine of 200,000 Yen (around US $1,920) and went back to work shortly afterwards. The current Rurouni Kenshin Hokkaido Arc Manga English translation in the US pretty much got cancelled once this news broke out.

Meanwhile, Yusuke Iseya (who portrayed Shinomori Aoshi) was arrested and sentenced to one year in prison for possessing cannabis.

I understand Japan's laws regarding cannabis, but putting these two incidents in the same discussion does bring out a lot of confusion over the severity of the "punishment" Watsuki received.

That means the Hong Kong Blu-Ray release (with English subtitles) should come out in time for Christmas 2021. :)

Man, this reminds me that I need to finish seeing the other movies( I've only seen the first one so far).

You're gonna love the next 2 films. Tatsuya Fujiwara (Battle Royale, Death Note) was an amazing Makoto Shishio in them.

Any word on if Kenji Tanigaki is returning as the action director? Regardless of how many returning cast & crew, if he’s missing, these instalments will be left with some pretty big shoes to fill.

He’s listed as the Action Director for both films on IMDB.

Holy cow!!! The Final came out on April 23. The theme song Renegades, by ONE OK ROCK, was co-written by Ed Sheeran.

The Beginning comes out on June 4
