Guest jmungus Posted August 23, 2007 Share Posted August 23, 2007 p081.ezboard.com/fkungfuf...3171.topic i liked it without getting satisfaction out of it, but im a sucker for asian fantasy movies as long as they dont stink, and this one doesnt stink and is indeed a FANTASY movie. expect a few decent action scenes (with a lot of help from okay cgi, wirework and editing); do not expect them to be satisfying from a m.a. pov. review in a nutshell: worst things first- the writing is flawed and otherwise not too smart or extraordinary either; in some instances, the screenplay`s convoluted and all over the place. didnt like the dialogue too much either. genre-wise its period fantasy action, plot-wise its a love story with a message of humaneness. thematically, u`ll find resemblances with flix like "ACGS", "green snake" or "49 days" (-> supernatural take on 2 opposite worlds colliding because of love and what comes out of it). stylistically, its what one expects from a high profile period epic outta korea (ie shadowless sword, legend of evil lake). some of the set stages kick supreme assss. action is good in general, but put under a scope, easily inferior to the genres reference movies`action/choreo in terms of creativity, craziness and hard hitting impact. in the bigger picture, its probably closest to "shinobi" with a touch of "HOFD" imo. its an intervalic (slight) up and down on a relatively high level. 6.6/10. *edit* renaming this to "restless sword" is pretty stupid (=>misleading), as the movie is in fact about "restless SOULS"!! (this "town of limbo", a rest stop for the spirits of dead ppl with unfinished earthly business, and a significant location in the movie, has got to be seen. its pretty neat, real eye candy & i found their conceptual approach to it pretty interesting and moderately successful. chu yuan/gu long wuxia fanatics check it out for 'heavenly limbo town' ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

"the restless". weird cover too. looks nothing like the korean one (dvd came out like 3, 4 months ago) & i do not recognize any of these dudes as (musa`s) jeung woo sung, star of 'the restless'. and wheres the chick anyways ?? hello ??? :x maybe another movie ? or maybe a bootleg ? are there other (official) releases outside of korea ? the korean characters on the (ebay) cover do say jungcheon alright.
