Tentatively titled 'Climbers,' the film tells the real-life story of the first Chinese mountaineers to summit Mount Everest.

The film will dramatize the real-life expedition of Chinese climbers Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo and Qu Yinhua, who made a historic ascent up Mount Everest's North Ridge in 1960. The Chinese team was the first to successfully climb Everest's north side, which is known to be especially perilous. The trio famously left a small statue of Chairman Mao atop the summit before returning midway down the mountain to rescue a fourth member of their team who was unable to complete the climb.

Is it too soon to assume he won't be ending his career on a high note? I'm not sure what to think of his recent efforts to be honest. They've been modest to put it mildly. I do hope to see him more behind the camera and pushing new talent into the spotlight.

His films are no longer big events, they seem to come and go, at a rapid rate too. That said, this project sounds like it will at least give him more of a chance to focus on his acting.

Mabye I was also partially under the illusion that he now has the luxury to be more picky about his projects. Then again the man has to pay his bills like everyone else I guess. And while I'm not fully aware of his lifestyle, his expenses might be a bit higher than the average joe. Still doesn't mean he has to attach his name to every crap fest he can. But I'm with you, this sounds fairly interesting.

He will give money to charity and other good causes too, he putting into reclying proects at the moment. These movies, all help to fund that too.

The first film, shot in October and November 2017, features Arthur Huang, a structural engineer from National Geographic Society’s Emerging Explorers, and founder of Miniwiz — a global leader in post-consumer recycling technology that has designed everything from a recycled plastic, multi-tasking USB charging device for EKOCYCLE to Nike’s Air Max packaging and a concept store in Shanghai constructed from waste materials. A few years back, Chan saw Huang introducing his circular economy practices on a National Geographic program and was deeply impressed. He took a picture of Huang's name on TV, got connected and has been working with him since.

Over the years, Chan became increasingly concerned with the huge amount of trash — often tens of thousands of plastic water bottles — generated at his movie sets, and has been seeking, in his own words, “redemption,” so his exposure to Huang’s technical expertise as a designer, engineer and architect came at the perfect time. Prior to the documentary, Miniwiz was commissioned by Chan to furnish his properties with items made from secondary materials: Pentatonic chairs made of recycled bottles and packaging waste, a wall system made of recycled CDs and tiles made from recycled plastic, etc.

Drunken Master VI, Chan directing but collaborating with Yuen Woo Ping on the action. Bring it all back to where it started. I can dream, right?

That would be a sight to behold, especially if they went back to the old ways of choreography(back to full on shapes and long takes)and no f...kin wires.👍👍

Secret Executioner

Sounds a bit like a Chinese response to the 2015 movie Everest - I quite liked that one, and Climbers also sounds interesting so I'll likely check it out.

Spoiler

Hilarious! Making a movie that ends with them putting a statue of Mao on Everest! Chan's family escaped China, to get away from Mao. Now that the fascist dictator ship is all about enriching the elite, all is forgiven, right? China is not socialist or communist, it's just a new dynasty that has a name.

Since this movie is based on the 1960 expedition, then that is what supposedly happened. Though the statue was not found by the next team to reach the summit or any other team.

They started with 192 members but only 3 made it to the summit.

There was no photographic evidence to show that they did reach the summit but the descriptions they gave was enough evidence to believe that they did reach the summit.

I see mountain climbing as kind of stupid and dangerous, especially to the sherpa's etc. Just a dick measuring contest for elites. A nice hike is great! But why risk your neck, and others as well?

And to think they made it even more dangerous by carrying a statue up there with them lol.
