"Zack Snyder is returning to his zombie roots to direct and produce 'Army of the Dead,' at Netflix.  Snyder, whose most recent credits are 'Justice League,' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' and 'Man of Steel,' made his directorial debut 15 years ago with 'Dawn of the Dead'... Joby Harold is writing the screenplay from Snyder's story.  'Army of the Dead' is set following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, when a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, entering into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.  Snyder is producing the pic with his spouse Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller from the Stone Quarry.  Principal photography is set to begin later this year."  From https://variety.com/2019/film/news/zack-snyder-army-of-the-dead-netflix-1203123121/

Indeed it does. I'm liking the concept of the zombies evolving.

Well, I hated his "Dawn of the Dead" remake, but this looks pretty damn cool. Nice choice of trailer music too.

Well this was bloody fun (literally). My only gripe with this one is that it’s a bit flabby. 2 1/2 hours long is a little too much.

However, Snyder builds an incredible new world for his undead. This is NOT your typical zombie movie. I don’t think the laughs hit as hard as The film thinks they do but the action more than makes up for that. Loads of gun play, gore and some surprisingly fun knife work.

I’m a fan.

Plenty of blood and gore. I mean the opening scene itself, holy shit! Has quiet moments too with an attempt at character and relationship development. Although that hardly matters. Dave Bautista is the shining star here! But also supported by a good cast of over the top characters. Sometimes not a lot of sense in it BUT this is just pure fun and entertainment. The only real gripe I have is

Spoiler

the "second" ending.

Overall highly recommended if you just wannna lay back and forget about all the shit that's (still) going on in this world for 2 1/2 hours.

There's a very interesting element of the movie that's never explained...

Spoiler

The robot zombies. There are at least two zombies that, when killed, give off sparks and have some kind of metallic skeleton and blue light in their heads. Apparently, the origins of these zombies will be explained in Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, an animated prequel to the movie. Snyder has also said he has crazy ideas for a sequel, if he ever gets to do one.

@Drunken Monk Totally forgot about that. Which reminds me...

Spoiler

The queen's unborn child was also blue or at least covered in some blue goo. Maybe a connection to the robot zombies!?

Don't think I've ever seen a zombie heist movie, gotta give Snyder credit for that. Extra points for that zombie tiger as well. Nothing's gained or lost watching AOTD, opening credits are brilliant, gore is very much welcome, the rest was pretty much standard stuff. I had fun watching this no brainer but I wasn't amazed. I will however be checking the sequel when it's out.
