Member Ah_Tao Posted January 12, 2019 Member Share Posted January 12, 2019 (edited) I don't know if I should be ecstatic or worried, but I'm going to go with ecstatic! Coming to America is one my favorite movies of all time! This movie CANNOT, and I repeat, CANNOT happen without Arsenio Hall. Edited January 12, 2019 by Ah_Tao Stupid thing wouldn't let me put up the vids lol

Member AlbertV Posted August 9, 2019 Author Member Share Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) Officially returning are Eddie Murphy (as Akeem), Arsenio Hall (as Semmi), James Earl Jones (as King Jaffe Joffer), Paul Bates (as Oha), and John Amos (as Cleo McDowell). It is still unknown if Shari Headley will be returning as Lisa McDowell. Jermaine Fowley will play Lavelle, a street hustler who is discovered to be Akeem's long lost son. Wesley Snipes has joined the cast as a new character in Zamunda, General Izzi (one can guess he is supposed to be the brother of Imani, played by Vanessa Bell Calloway in the original film), and Lesley Jones in an unspecified role as well as Rick Ross. https://deadline.com/2019/08/john-amos-coming-to-america-sequel-eddie-murphy-paramount-1202665310/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/wesley-snipes-joins-eddie-murphy-coming-america-sequel-1229821https://deadline.com/2019/08/james-earl-jones-rick-ross-paul-bates-joining-coming-to-america-sequel-1202663755/https://deadline.com/2019/06/jermaine-fowler-coming-2-america-paramount-eddie-murphy-1202634509/https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/leslie-jones-kiki-layne-joining-coming-america-sequel-1228396 Edited August 9, 2019 by AlbertV

Member AlbertV Posted August 26, 2019 Author Member Share Posted August 26, 2019 Shooting has begun in Georgia and another familiar face has returned in the form of Garcelle Beauvais, who started her career in the original film as one of the rose-petal bearers. It is believed she will reprise that role in the sequel with South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha has been cast in an unspecified role. http://www.darkhorizons.com/beauvais-mbatha-join-coming-2-america/ Arsenio Hall is returning not only as Semmi, but Reverend Brown as well. Member laagi Posted March 7, 2021 Member Share Posted March 7, 2021 A few light chuckles here and there. Pretty much everything has been recycled from the first movie. I'll admit though it was fun to see some of the old characters return. Also surprisingly poor CGI and set decoration. Overall this will (at least in my book) go down as another completely unnecessary sequel. I wonder who keeps asking for these...

Nostalgic fans? the barbershop scene's still work, i laughed quite a bit..other than that, it was rubbish. I loved the reprising character's especially the Peaches Twins..wicked!
Member laagi Posted March 8, 2021 Member Share Posted March 8, 2021 Even nostalgia can't save these sequels But I agree the barbershop scene or the barbershop quartet was by far the funniest.

It's not the worst sequel out there, but I could have lived without it. They're having more fun making these films, than we have watching them.
Member Drunken Monk Posted March 8, 2021 Member Share Posted March 8, 2021 Terrible movie. I'll be surprised if I see a worse one this year. I'm usually pretty lax when it comes to comedy but I didn't laugh once during this. I think they even ruined the nostalgia factor. They brought back characters from the original and made them less funny.

To me at least it just seems to be a matter of a big enough paycheck for some actors to return to a beloved franchise. At the same time major studios desperately trying to shi*t out as much content as possible. Probably one of the reasons we see so many prequels, sequels, remakes, re-imaginations and what not.
