Member panku Posted November 5, 2018 Member Share Posted November 5, 2018 Shaw Brothers employed the use of scaled models in many of their films, but because they were mostly used for establishing shots, their screen time could be very brief. Some are so well done that a casual observer may not realize they were models. Here are a few I've captured: Crazy Shaolin Disciples (1985) I've noticed this diorama is re-used in a few films. Member panku Posted November 5, 2018 Author Member Share Posted November 5, 2018 Moods of Love (1977) I think this is the same diorama as used in Crazy Shaolin Disciples Perils of the Sentimental Swordsman (1982) In this shot the foreground is regular size, but the background is a minature: more to come...
Member Chu Liu Hsiang Posted November 6, 2018 Member Share Posted November 6, 2018 Totally amazing. Thanks for sharing! I watched LADY OF STEEL recently and thought the horse jump looked kinda weird (the fence too high, and with those spiky poles). How cool would it be to have one of those dioramas.
Member DragonClaws Posted November 8, 2018 Member Share Posted November 8, 2018 Who-ever created those sets, were really skilled craftsmen or women, and I bet they made them with limited funds too?. Guess they must have re-used as many of them as possible, to lower costs too?. Thanks for posting these images @panku, they remind me of the stye sets used by Gerry Anderson, in original Thunderbirds series.
Member Tex Killer Posted August 28, 2019 Member Share Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) In swordsman&enchantress there is very neat miniature villa and one does not actually need sharp eyes to notice it. Just not being blind is enough.... Edited August 28, 2019 by Tex Killer

Member Chu Liu Hsiang Posted March 17, 2021 Member Share Posted March 17, 2021 Not sure if this is really a scale model? They only showed this perspective twice, and each time for just a glimpse. The guy in front could be a trick.
Member Cognoscente Posted June 14, 2021 Member Share Posted June 14, 2021 I would have liked to have seen Shaw do their version of a puppet story like Thunderbirds.
