Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura (Destiny: Kamakura Monogatari) is a Japanese drama/fantasy/comedy  film released in 2017.  The director, Takashi Yamazaki, also directed The Returner, The Eternal Zero, and the live action Parasyte Parts 1 and 2.  The movie is based on the Kamakura Monogatari manga by Saigan Ryouhei.  "Kamakura Monogatari follows the mystery writer Masakazu Isshiki and his young bride, Akiko, on their heart-warming life in Kamakura - but it's not all fun and games!  Masakazu and Akiko get caught up in a series of mysterious events one right after another that require all their wits and sleuthing skills to solve."  This manga synopsis (from https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=23163) doesn't discuss the strangeness  about the Kamakura where Isshiki and Akiko live, where "the conventional and mythical worlds overlap".  "Here, an assortment of strange creatures live side by side with humans, trading with them, sometimes threatening to eat them.  Death gods and gods of ill fortune dwell side by side with goblins, frog creatures and the spirits of the recently deceased.  Ordinarily that is a peaceful community, but recently, strange things have started happening.  Before they know it, Isshiki and Akiko find themselves caught up in events that could tear them apart and forever alter the destiny of their immortal souls."  From https://www.eyeforfilm.co.uk/review/destiny-the-tale-of-kamakura-2017-film-review-by-jennie-kermode   Isshiki is played by Sakai Masato (Abacus and Sword), Akiko is played by Takahata Mitsuki (Haruko Azumi is Missing),  The cast also includes Tsutsumi Shin'ichi (Gintama 2), Tanaka Min (Blade of the Immortal), and Kunimura Jun (Fullmetal Alchemist).

Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura was shown at the 2018 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and has had some good reviews.  Besides the Eye for Film review, here are a couple more - http://www.digitallydownloaded.net/2018/05/a-japanese-film-you-should-see-destiny.html  and  https://asianmoviepulse.com/2018/05/destiny-tale-of-kamakura-2017-by-takashi-yamazaki/
