It has been reported that he passed away in Vancouver, on the 20th of this month.

Perhaps this link (in Chinese) offers more details?

He was always such a wonderful actor. 'Come Drink With Me' was one of the first Shaws I saw, and he'd left an impression on me ever since.

Biography

Although his family is from Canton, Yueh Hua was born in Shanghai under the name of Liang Le-Hua. After training at the Shanghai Music Institute, he came to Hong Kong in 1962. A year later he entered the Shaw Brothers acting class after a stint with the Nan Guo experimental film group. And in 1966 was contracted with Shaw Brothers at a time when actresses were more popular than actors. Finding work was difficult. Yet Yueh found luck. He was cast opposite the soon to be crowned "Queen of Kung-fu films", Cheng Pei-pei, in first Princess Iron Fan (1966) then in Come Drink With Me (1966), considered by many to be the precursor for all swordswomen films to come and King Hu's most influential directed film done at Shaw Brothers. Yueh's characeter from Come Drink With Me is still considered classic. Before appearing on camera he would get into character by drinking two bottles of Chinese wine.

During the 1960's and 1970's he averaged five films per year and with all the Shaw's main leading actresses in mostly classic martial art films such as Chin Ping's Killer Darts (1968), Cheng Pei-pei's Lady of Steel (1969) and The Shadow Whip (1970), and Taiwan's kung-fu queen Shih Szu's The Young Avenger (1972) and The Villains (1973). He topped off his career with a final appearance in Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx (1995).

A film career that spanned more than 30 years, he was in over 90 films. Yueh and his wife eventually Tanny Tien Ni moved to Canada. His peers and fans have labelled him "Mr. Nice Guy: and lately he became the chairman of the Association of Performing Artists in Canada.

Such sad news !!

He was the first Shaws' actors I saw when I was young, in Twelve gold medallions, and he became one of my favourite actors since then.

All our favourite Shaws' actors and actresses are slowly leaving us with only their movies to remember of them...very sad period...

Wow rest in power! I was just looking through his stuff the other day, and strange how he passed on so suddenly. My all time favorite from him will always be The Master and The Kid. Thanks for films!

I'm very upset to hear this, was just recently thinking if he had always played a good character throughout his whole career when it turns out he had his fair share of being the villain. A very skilful and charismatic actor who also possessed great flexibility on the set. RIP Yueh Hua!

I can't believe he is gone, and what an impressive filmography!

RIP Yueh Hua. A name that will forever be central to the Shaw catalogue. Thank you for the legacy you have left to us all.

Talk about co-incidence, Twelve Gold Medallions (1970) was the first film I saw in which he starred too!

RIP

Yueh Hua as The Drinking Knight. A drunken master before Drunken Master:

It seems that Yuehh Hua also sang the songs of the movie Come drink with me, since I found the front and back cover of a LP in which he sings. Another complet artist, since he began with dancing in some of his earlier Shaws' movies.

I'm so sad to hear about Yueh Hua's death, my condolences to his wife, family and friends. His acting always convinced me, he was dashing as young heroic swordsman, very likeable in "contemporary" roles, devious yet charismatic as villain; he had a way to upvalue every secondary role he played. CLANS OF INTRIGUE was the first movie I saw him in, a very memorable role. He quickly became one of my favorites, I saw most of his for-me-relevant Shaw movies but there are still a lot non Shaws to discover.

Rest in Peace, Sir. Thank you for many wonderful movies.

R.I.P.

There was a nice interview with him on the recent 88 Films blu-ray release of The Vengeful Beauty. I couldn't believe how he didn't look like he had aged a day since the Shaws era. I hope there is some more of that interview footage that 88 would consider releasing someday.

And a clip showing his funeral.

Chang Yi, Yuen Wah (if I'm not mistaken, with a beard), Ko Hung are here.

Yep, that's Yuen Wah. Ko Hung looks like he's barely aged.

If that girl in the red cap is his daughter, she reminds me of how her mother Tanny Tien Ni looked like in the 70s.  I hope his family is healing.
