Polaroid director Lars Klevberg is directing and this time, Chucky will not be a doll possessed by a serial killer, but rather in this modern day of technology, a ticked off fired worker has reprogrammed one of the dolls to start a killing spree. The original creator, Don Mancini, is not happy with the idea and is continuing the original franchise (2017's Cult of Chucky was the most recent) via a television series and then, more straight to DVD installments. This is the new Chucky. Already signed to the new film are Aubrey Plaza (as Karen Barclay), Brian Tyree Henry (Det. Mike Norris), and Gabriel Bateman (as Andy Barclay). Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing the film with Kung Fury scribe Tyler Burton Smith writing the script. Shooting just began a few weeks ago on the new film. In case for those who are wondering how this is possible, MGM and Universal Pictures have made a deal where MGM owns the rights of just the original 1988 film (which allows them to remake the film) with all sequels being owned by Universal. https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/mgm-setting-childs-play-reboot/
