Member De Ming Li Posted October 6, 2018 Member Share Posted October 6, 2018 Just want to know if Yueh Hua aka Elliot Ngok ever only been cast as a good guy in not only Shaw films but whatever else movies he's been in? From what I've seen, that seems to be the case.

From what I've seen, that seems to be the case. The only time I've seen him play the bad guy is in Mahjong Heroes (1982) where he plays a rival mahjong expert. There might be other films where he's played the main villain that I don't know about. I find it strange that he hasn't played many bad guys. I feel like he has a "villainous" look. 😁 But to answer your question, he's a played a bad guy at least once.

Member panku Posted October 6, 2018 Member Share Posted October 6, 2018 These are the films of his that I have never seen, so can't comment on them. I have A Pretended Rebel, but I never got around to it yet. The Lark (1965) The Monkey Goes West (1966) Princess Iron Fan (1966) Swan Song (1967) The Two Faces of Love (1974) My Bewitched Wife (1975) Temperament of Life (1975) Wedding Nights (1976) Erotic Nights (1976) Kung Fu Girls (1978) The Unique Lama (1978) The Dream Sword (1979) A Pretended Rebel (1979) The Idiot Swordsman (1979) In The Beginning (1979) Born of Fire (1980) Love Bittersweet (1984) Fascinating Affairs (1985) In the Line of Duty III (1988) Just Heroes (1989) Princess Madam (1989) Never Ending Summer (1992) Rumble in the Bronx (1995) Faithfully Yours (1995) Migratory Bird (2001) Wo Hu (2006) Confession of Pain (2006) Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon (2008)

The lark and Swan song : he plays a dancer, there, and I don't think that he has a long role, so, no bad guy either, unless I'm mistaken... If I'm not mistaken, he also plays a not very recommendable guy in Mist over Dream Lake. I haven't watched Mutiny on the high sea as yet, so, I don't know what is his role. My bewitched wife : a good guy who lives with a bewithced wife and to whom a lot of funny things happen...I guess that this movie was inspired by the series with Elizabeth Montgomeryn since there is also a bewitched mother in the movie, played by Patricia Hsia Ping, if I remember well. Temperament of life : a good guy I watched In the beginning a long while ago and I didn't remember at all that Yueh Hua played in it !

Yes, I'm glad you pointed this out. I just went down my list and copied all the ones that said "evil" next to them. But I have also a column for notes and next to this film, which I had him listed as "good", I wrote "can't really call him evil, but he is selfish". I also have him listed as "neutral" in 2 films, Jade Tiger and Return of The Sentimental Swordsman, so he's neither good nor bad in these 2. Don't click this if you want to be surprised when you watch Mutiny on the High Sea: Spoiler He plays a good guy in Mutiny on the High Sea
Member panku Posted October 6, 2018 Member Share Posted October 6, 2018 I forgot to add the films I've seen, but haven't rewatched since I started making this list. I had the same impression as you for a long time thinking he always played a good guy. Killer Clans was the first one I saw where it was like "Whoa!" The second list posted above is the films I don't have, so it's around 27. You are far ahead of me! Somehow I have a copy of The Imp, but it may be from a VHS or VCD. If you like the horror films from around that time like Devil Fetus, it is in that category. Thanks for listing what he is in Supermen and Lung Wei Village. I will definitely be watching that again. As for Supermen vs the Amazons, I don't think so, lol.
