@Irongod2112 do you think we have any chance of seeing part 2 released on a near future? Also, from the old HKL catalog, the only film I think they released on a wrong, cropped aspect ratio, is The Legend of a Fighter. Any chances for this one?

@thundered mantis I am pretty sure the sequel is in the "Hell of amazing-never-released Hong Kong films in the Warner Brothers vault". I heard that Eureka wanted to release both films- together as a set- but it couldn't be done.

Aside from LEGEND OF A FIGHTER, from what I remember, DRUNKEN MASTER and SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW were also released by HKL's in the incorrect aspect ratios.

I wanted to preorder Basher box as well, but Amazon shipping cost is 50+ dollars. With all the releases announced in April and May, it just seemed like a waste of money. I'll wait till it's released and see if I can find it for less...

Yeah, Spooky is gonna be great!! Can't wait. A pity to hear about the "could've been" pack. I think you're right about SITES and DM, thing is I never bought them. At least those ones were available on OAR on other releases. The Legend of a Fighter (like The Victim or Buddhist Fist) did never appear on a home release uncropped, afaik. That would make them, like, say, "golden inmortal kung fu editions" or whatever lol

I looked into this recently and these films are tied up in the same problem as the John Woo films. From what I understand, they are owned by Golden Princess, which was acquired by a company that has no interest in doing anything with any of the films they now own, regardless of how lucrative the offers have been for acquiring licensing for them. Looks like it's currently a big, fat "no" for any other Blu-ray release for these.

So after inquiring about the quality of the Art Vision (a South Korean distributor) A CHINESE GHOST STORY Trilogy Blu-ray set which came out in 2015, I went ahead an ordered it. It's English friendly and includes both Cantonese and Mandarin audio, though sadly, not the original mono tracks. I've been wanting to re-watch these for a few years now, and when I put on my DVD of the first one in, it looked pretty shabby PQ-wise (yes, I'm being a spoiled baby about this one) so I decided to hold off and look into an upgrade. If the postal system doesn't have any unforeseen problems I should have the set this week or next.

Wow I see a lot of titles on that list that are of huge interest to people a lot of films I've read that are great but are unlikely to see blu-ray releases thats a huge list in the probably never going to happen category I can only hope that the companies that hold the rights to the films I am interested in seeing upgraded to blu-ray don't take the same stance as that one has with their films

Thanks for the info! I also caved and bought the Trilogy box set when I preordered Fortune Star's Duel of Death Bluray  (I know that one is coming out in the UK eventually but I just couldn't resist). It's a bummer that the company is just sitting on the rights, kind of reminds me of the drama surrounding George Romero's Dawn of the Dead/Martin. Thankfully, the Romero films are seeing the light of day again, perhaps enough nudging will make the same happen to A Ghost Story and other films!

I wonder if the licensing for these was brokered before the current owners purchased Golden Princess? I'm not sure.

I was very tempted to order DUEL TO THE DEATH too- I love that movie! But I decided to roll the dice and wait to see if it gets released by one of these UK guys. For selfish reasons I hope it's 88 Films, because I'd want to create artwork for it.

I hope so. That would be wonderful. The DAWN OF THE DEAD set was well worth waiting for! Looking forward to the upcoming MARTIN release from them too. The film's star, John Amplas, was my little sister's drama teacher when she went to college in Pittsburgh, they remain close friends, and my whole family loves him. He's a really sweet guy. Life is full of surprises: I grew up watching John in the films MARTIN, DAY OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW, etc, had drawn pictures of him, never imagining I'd ever meet him. Flash forward years later, my parents have his son's most recent baby pictures hanging on the refrigerator! The last time I saw him was when my son and I went to see my sister in a play she was starring in that John directed. It was excellent! That was my son's first time meeting him and he was a little starstruck. After the play John took us out to a nice pizza place and treated us. He's a lot of fun to talk to.

I asked 88 Films and they said it won't be one of theirs. I imagine it'll be a Eureka! release.

Apologies to begin with, not trying to derail this thread, I have to ask you knowledgeable fellers, which release version of Dawn of the dead is a must purchase? Which version is considered the best? Ive only seen the theatrical cut plus bonus uncut material separately. Thanks!
