No I don't know them, I've checked my movie list and I think the label was Greenfan and they did release Ninja in Ancient China so maybe it was Dream Sword that they didn't release?

It was Mike Banner, who was one of the OG co-hosts of Podcast On Fire that we still run to this day. He did release Ninja In Ancient China but Dream Sword and Return Of The Deadly Blade ultimately never happened if I remember correctly.

No focus on martial arts and not even a ton of gunplay. It's more dramatic but well mounted and not as wild as a the name Wong Jing (as co-director) suggests. I hope people get to know this film as quite the serious work. It's been overshadowed by the comedic streak of gambling films but I think it did ok at the box office at the time.

I love Eureka! but will be passing on Casino Raiders. The premise of the film never really appealed to me and the trailer did little to counter that.

With that said, I'm glad they're focusing on Hong Kong thrillers, dramas and comedies. As much as I love action, I think these films need to be seen by wider audiences.

I skipped God of Gamblers for the same reason. I prefer my period style kung fu or weird extreme Asian cinema like Killer Elephant and just stay away from anything gambling oriented.

I'll admit; I regretted picking up God of Gamblers.

Concering the story "fall of ako castle" seems to be real fun. But the eureka trailer shows little fighting and action. I think the movie is not figthing-based?? Any aficionados of this movie here?

It's just a variation of the Chushingura story (47 Ronin) so it will be quite talky but compared to some of other 47 Ronin adaptations, this one does have some nice fight scenes especially involving Sonny Chiba (not sure might he might've have choreographed the fights himself). If I remember correctly there are 2 or 3 nice fighting scenes especially the final attack on Lord Kira's stronghold.

Anyone know what the story is behind this release? Any difference from the recent 4k release? I've checked but I'm not noticing any thing different other than the cover.

Ok cool, I couldn't remember his name and Mike Banner didn't ring any bells, I remember him wearing a suit like Napoleon Dynamite wore to the prom when he held a kung fu movie day at a cinema in Birmingham :coveredlaugh

I said the same thing on Eureka's YT channel. There's already a 4k Police Story 1 - 3 boxset.

I suppose when 8k comes along, we'll get 8k releases on everything too.

I wouldn't say it was milking it as a lot of fans were hoping for a standard release.

Crossposting something I brought up on the Blu-Ray.com thread, but:

I'm not sure if these will be stamped from the existing masters, but I would like to speak my two cents about the audio for the English for the export cut on Police Story 1.

Last year, I got in contact with an Australian collector who had a copy of the rare Roadshow Home Video VHS of the export cut, which used Golden Harvest's old PAL video master, where the audio was sourced directly from the sepmag audio master rather than the optical track from a print.

The difference in quality speaks for itself:

I also did up SDH for the dub on the export cut. I get it if this is just a simple reissue of the existing discs with new (incredible btw!) artwork, but I wanted to bring this up if there's any chance of including the audio upgrade. :D

@Irongod2112?

Definitely a different branch that Eureka is doing after just sticking to Chinese martial arts. Hoping for more Japanese Edo samurai stuff.

By the time the standard release comes out, you can get the one thousand that’s already out at the exact same price as standard.

I've been thinking of picking up the Lucky Stars trilogy set for a while and I noticed when checking the extras that some listings show the Scott Adkins interview with Richard Norton from his Art of Action series is included whilst others don't. Can anybody confirm if this is on there? It's not a dealbreaker as such but the reason i've held off on the set really is that I can't see me rewatching the movies too often but some good extras might change my mind and I do like the Art of Action series.

Have only gone through the third film and its extras for research but it wasn't on that disc. However there is an extensive interview (ported from the HKL dvd) with Richard that covered all bases for me anyway.

Thanks for checking, it's not listed on the Eureka site but i've seen this on other sites;

  • Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars – Scott Adkins interviews Richard Norton, an excerpt from Adkins’ own “The Art of Action” series featuring Richard Norton discussing his experiences working on Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars

I know occasionally there's stuff on the disc that isn't listed for some reason and this would've been a good extra. I vaguely remember talk of some behind the scenes footage that didn't make it onto the original limited edition either and I think it was later used on Millionaires Express, I wonder if this is now on the standard edition. Yeah the interviews from the HKL dvds were all really good and as I don't have them anymore that's what's making me think I should get this set whilst it's still available at a decent price. The movies are decent but not really my favourites so i'm still deciding.

Perhaps something that was dropped before the disc was finalized. I'm pretty sure I went through the entire third disc and it wasn't there. The limited edition listing here doesn't mention it either (I have the standard edition).

Yeah that must be it, i'm particularly interested in live kung fu demonstrations these used to be a feature of the HKL special features do the featurettes on this release contain much action or is it more interviews & outtakes?
