Negative pullups or chin ups?

I can't do any pull ups, but I can do up to 10 chin ups. Are chin ups a good way to build up my strength to do pull ups?

Or should I start with negative pull ups instead?

A good way to build up your ability to do the wide gripped style pull-ups, is by doing some lat pulldowns. Spend some timeon the lat pull down excercise, while taking a break from doing any pull-ups for awhile. Then after a few months, give the pulls up another try.

It common for people to be able to perform chin-up,s but not pull ups. The wider grip makes a pull that little bit harder, it also effects a your physique in a different way. The wider your grip, the more your Lat's and other muscles come into play. The lat pull down machine, replicates this movement, minus you havng to pull your own body weight up.

Hope this helps you out?, writing on forums are not always the best place to explian/demonstrate these kinds of things.
