Walt is the pioneer of non-classical martial arts in Australia. In 1974 he opened his first school, by 1975 he was the youngest full time professional martial arts instructor in Australia with about 30 schools operating. He established a specialised security service that dealt with the training of military and police personnel as well as providing people that managed situations where violence was expected. This group, headed by Walt, became quite famous in Australia and was known as ‘The Wrecking Crew’ and was featured on Television and in a number of newspaper and magazine stories.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Walt Missingham, was the first non Chinese man, to study at the Shaolin Temple, in 1983?. Does anyone know, if he's still connected with filmaking? or the Martial Arts?. He produced Bruce Lee & Kung Fu Mania(1992), and three of th all tie classic BL docuemtnaries, Jeet Kune Do(1995), Interceptng Fist(1999) and Path of The Dragon(1998). He also produced the Blood & Steel, Making of ETD short for 2004 DVD re-issue of the film.

It has today been confirmed that JKDA President Walt Missingham will star in a new Australian/USA Co-production entitled

'Return to Shaolin'

The film, which will be screened on a major USA Network, will tell the story of Walt Missingham - from being critically injured over 30 years ago and while still in recovery making the film 'Kung Fu Pilgrimage' about his training at the Shaolin Temple in 1983, to his creation of a multi million dollar earning film production company. Walt's story will be overlayed with the story of the Shaolin Temple and martial arts in general - the growth the changes, the challenges of the past thirty years - the emergence of the 'Shaolin' brand, the impact of MMA seen through his eyes as he returns to the Shaolin Temple to once again train and learn.

Walt commented:

"I had gone away from documentaries, I thought for good, as the focus of our company has been feature films, we currently have three in various stages of production, but when this was put to me in Kuala Lumpur, two months ago, I said I would think about it and I decided it might be good to do. I have not been in front of the camera for a while so this will be a welcome change as well as a good story to present - I am frankly both flattered and humbled to be asked to make this film"

Further information on 'Return to Shaolin' will be released as the project proceeds.

Notice that the Inosanto's (includes his Mrs) had the sticks out...probably billed as a JKD seminar 😜

When I was 16, I visited Endinburgh during a Holiday, and Inosanto was doing a seminar their, remember seeing both him ad his then wife on the poster's. Which were all over the train station/surrounding area, I'd missed the event by a few day's. Unless you bought the Fighting Art's magazines on a regualr basis, you would often miss these kind of events, in the pre internet days. Unless you were connected to the right circles of people.

My problem with those sorts of events - they were billed as JKD but what everyone got was Kali, Silat and what ever stuff Inosanto was into at the time. He left the Original JKD behind sometime after 1976 (even then it was minimal) while all this other stuff was pushed out as JKD Concepts. Sure, Bruce could have gone that way but he wasn't around  to argue. I have been training in the original Oakland version for 9 yrs now and none of what you see on those videos was Bruce's JKD.

There's so many different versions of Jeet Kune Do now, most created profit?, I wonder how BL himself would have viewed all these different groups, all argueing about who's style is the most genuine?

Anyone watched this documentary made by Walt Missingham?. If so, is it about purely about the Fighting Art's, or more about Martial Arts on-screen?.

Kung Fu Mania - 90 min production for Fox Columbia Tri Star

I'm assuming it's not this low-budget documentary, with a similar name?.
