Member muppetdanny Posted June 21, 2018 Member Share Posted June 21, 2018 I've just read at denofgeek.com a list of stuff that's going to be on Netflix UK this July and there quite a few Shaw Brothers in the list, many are new to Netflix (that I know of): Disciples Of The 36th Chamber Hero Martial Arts of Shaolin Opium and the Kung Fu Master Painted Faces (I think it is the Sammo Hung 1988 film!) The Bare-Footed Kid The Young Vagabond Five Elements Ninjas Flying Guillotine 2 Legendary Weapons of China Return To The 36th Chamber Sword Masters: Two Champions of Shaolin The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin The Five Venoms I think that's all of them but just in case I missed anything, here's the link: http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/movies/netflix/36720/new-on-netflix-uk-whats-added-in-july-2018

Member LuFengLover Posted June 23, 2018 Member Share Posted June 23, 2018 I womder why Netflix US lost the rights to Shaw Bros. Films? They should have fought harder. I am ready to give up my subscription.
Member Omni Dragon Posted June 23, 2018 Member Share Posted June 23, 2018 Thanks for sharing this it's good news. I was actually thinking of getting Amazon Prime to watch their selection of Shaw's, but still I'll put that off for now to watch those. It seems like there's some more titles that Celestial might own the rights to. There seems to be more names that match ones that had some sort of Shaw involvement or Mona Fong as producer, etc: ' Casino Tycoon Casino Tycoon 2 Doubles Cause Troubles Justice, My Foot! Little Dragon Maiden Love on Delivery Mr. Virgin Prince Charming On the Wrong Track The Bund' A lot of those seem surprising choices considering the intended market. I know Stephen Chow is kind of well known internationally. But I'm not sure what Brits will think of the Wong Jing comedy for example. Not sure if a DVD/BD label would have (risked) releasing those in Britain. But then again I was a little surprised at 88 Films choices of horror Shaw's. I guess I'm just so used to Hong Kong being almost only known for martial art and sometimes gun play action to the international audience.
Member reason108 Posted June 27, 2018 Member Share Posted June 27, 2018 Sucks, as this could be an indicator of what 88 won’t be releasing. Maybe some of these titles might end up seeing a German release.
Member Chemical Lemon Posted June 27, 2018 Member Share Posted June 27, 2018 There are a few interesting titles in there mr virgin and Prince Charming aren’t on any of the other digital platforms (at least in the West) they are both 80s comedies that Celestial seems to be interested in pushing lately. if the bund is the movie, then that’s pretty big news as the movie was never even released on dvd by IVL it might be the TVB tv show though which would still have a lot of SB names involved. I’ve seen that available on disc and it might even be available on a streaming platform. The movies seem like a good choice for Celestial to push though since it sounds like there is a lot of nostalgia for the tv show right now. Member Omni Dragon Posted July 4, 2018 Member Share Posted July 4, 2018 Seems a little strange that the Shaw's scheduled for the 1st don't seem to be on there yet. The non-Shaw's on the list seem to be there though.
Member goldenarm Posted July 5, 2018 Member Share Posted July 5, 2018 The issue I have with Amazon Prime for Shaw Brothers titles is that they do not include the option of watching it in the English dub (for those titles which should have them available.) On the other hand when Shaw Brothers titles were on Hulu they gave you the option to watch them streamed that way.

I own a few Shaws titles on Amazon (also on iTunes & Google Play) as well as having Amazon Prime but I have only watched less than a handful of Shaws little on Amazon. In-fact I don't remember which ones I have watched on Amazon.

There both English dub versions this time. IIRC when 36TH CHAMBER was on Netflix before in was Mandarin audio (with optional English subs). It could have been Cantonese but I'm almost certain it was Mandarin. I guess I assumed it would be the same again.

Member Omni Dragon Posted August 3, 2018 Member Share Posted August 3, 2018 Here's all the Hong Kong movies that have been discussed in this thread but not yet confirmed that I could find: CASINO TYCOON is there but no CASINO TYCOON II yet. JUSTICE, MY FOOT! is there but no play option for me at the moment, maybe just a temporary glitch?

Member Omni Dragon Posted August 17, 2018 Member Share Posted August 17, 2018 It's seems a little silly that TWO CHAMPIONS OF SHAOLIN is under the name 'Sword Masters: Two Champions of Shaolin' it must have picked up that name from the Well Go USA DVD release. Member Tong Zi Bai Fo Posted August 21, 2018 Member Share Posted August 21, 2018 Seems like most/all of these have been added to Canadian Netflix as well!
Member Ah_Tao Posted August 30, 2018 Member Share Posted August 30, 2018 Can't believe that these movies are dubbed on Netflix (never used to be before). I have to say though, why did they put the WellGo name for Two Champions of Shaolin? Even then, there weren't really any big sword fights in here, it's mostly unarmed action. For this movie though, the color is shit for some strange reason. I adjusted the color on my tv, and it's still the same way. The WellGo dvd was never this way. I checked on Opium and the Kung Fu Master (my favorite Ti Lung movie, I watch that with Ten Tigers, Challenge of the Masters, and Martial Club) and it's top-notch like the Funimation DVD. So glad they put the dubs and new ones on Netflix.
Member lilmanjs Posted September 8, 2018 Member Share Posted September 8, 2018 I've noticed its a weird mixed bag on netflix. Some have original language, and dubs, and some just have english dubs. So weird when some of the movies that returned to netflix had the original language, and now only the dub. Some of that dub work was awful, in a good way though.
