Who I incorrectly remembered as Steve board, obviously made searches on the forums and elsewhere difficult. I thought it might be nice to have information and a discussion on all things dubbing in 1 place. Incase you havent seen it, it features a small section on dubbing, featuring an english actress who did the job, early in her career. It's a dated looking film now, and the craze is viewed from an English cultural point of view. Putting a name to the man who probably dub Sammo for most of his classic Cantonese movies is nice. Here's a video about English and Cantonese movie dubbing. I assume its originally from around 1989 since; Aces Go Places V, The Killer and In the Line of Duty 4 are being dubbed. As I understand it, Macross is an anime franchise with various versions including versions of Robotech. The character Hikaru Ichijo aka Rick Hunter was often dubbed by Tony Olivier in versions of Robotech. John Culkin dubbed the character in Macross: Do You Remember Love? John Culkin also dubbed Jackie Chan in the original English dubs of Heart of Dragon, Police Story, Armour of God etc. @DragonClaws thank you for the info and sharing those links particularly the link for the Dubbing Wikia. Quote 1982 brought a big change in my professional life : I was recruited as a film dubber. It was 'earphone dubbing', for those who know, and it was full time. Six, sometimes seven days a week, eight to ten hours a day, we sometimes slept in the studios ! We all made a good salary at the end of the month. And as well as movies, we were also dubbing TV series, it was really mass production dubbing ! Godfrey was always present in the dubbing studio, with an amused smile, distant, but always very clear about what he wanted, and he always payed on time. So he had a good reputation. When he started inviting dubbers to act in his films in 1986-1987, none refused. And since we were told that it was going to the Indonesian market, far from the eyes of our close ones in North America, Europe and Australia, we all agreed. It was only in 1992 that a friend in Los Angeles told me he bought a VHS with me as ninja at his corner store ! I laughed and he send me a copy. Member DragonClaws Posted December 9, 2018 Member Share Posted December 9, 2018 Here's another few tid-bits of dubbing information, for you @Silver and Gold Dragon Quote Francis Lam Pou-chuen (Chinese: 林保全; Pinyin: Lín Bǎoquán; 10 October 1951 – 2 January 2015) was a Hong Kong voice actor who was best known for voicing the character Doraemon for the Hong Kong version of the anime for over thirty years in addition to being the Cantonese voice of Sammo Hung in many of his dubbed blockbusters. Lam was born in Portuguese Macau but moved to Hong Kong as a teenager. He first worked as an office boy for a bank, but after being impressed by the voice acting of Tarzan he applied to be a voice actor at Hong Kong's TVB in 1971. Lam voiced the title character for Doraemon since the very first episode was broadcast by TVB in 1981. Yes! In fact, you’re quite right because there is a Chinese saying, which they use a lot. And we could never think what to say. This was when Ron Oliphant was scriptwriting. “But still” came in it a lot. And the other one is, “so then.” Because Oriental languages — Japanese, Chinese, and probably many others that I don’t know about — would have this funny, two-syllable thing which is — normally the only way you could say (it in English) is “so then” or “but still.” All you are doing is filling a conversational gap or inviting further comment. And you are quite right, “but still” and “so then” were standbys. Because what else do you say if you have got two syllables, and you don’t want to say anything particularly?!
