Well, I didbn't find the post in which I was mentioning the Panorama catalog of Cathay  movies, so, here are the titles mentioned in it ( in addition to the titles we are all aware of ) and that I never saw in dvds :

More dramas than action, though, but at least, they must have been releaased at a time, since they are mentioned in a booklet sold with the dvds I bought...

Dial for murder and Mission to die should be of interest...

Someone was curious about Dial for Murder. But these were not released, correct? It looks like their dramas were really what was of interest or considered "classic". I wonder what the criteria was for picking which ones to release? Box Office? Forbidden Killing is probably the most action packed of the Wu Xia's I have seen so far, but that did not make the cut.

I did not see them on Le Asia. Maybe they were, I will look somewhere else. I honestly don't think these flew off the shelf.

Not a lot of good stuff released from Cathay. I believe this is everything that came out on DVD. Those titles in the catalog were probably on deck to be released but with waning interest in these classical films they stopped.

The early academy ratio Cathays I can live without the widescreen (Mambo Girl, Our Sister Hedy, Air Hostess, etc) but I'd really buy Panoramas more indiscriminately if they properly letterboxed their widescreen titles (Because of Her, Mad Mad Sword, etc.) like they should be, then they'll at least give Celestial's rereleasing efforts a run for the money because these are all great films that carry an alternate more mature orientation and aura about them than Shaw entertainment. Maybe they're sourcing their telecine masters only from old 16mm prints originally framed for HK TV. I've actually seen some of these films projected in pan & scan at academic & community center screenings while growing up.

There is an interesting story about the production on the Hong Kong Film Archive, which explains the confusion for the different production dates. Also it was first released in Taiwan in April 1968, almost a year earlier than Hong Kong.

'Gunfight at Lo Ma Lake' was conceived back in 1957 when director Griffin Yue Feng was commissioned by MP & GI/Cathay to do a pilot with Linda Lin Dai cast in the leading role of Little Peach Red. The project was taken off the shelves at the end of 1965 when director Evan Yang finally found a scenic lake in Tainan as the film’s backdrop. Regina Pai Ping replaced the late Lin as the female lead. The film was shot simultaneously with 'The Wandering Knight' (1967).

Synopsis: In view of his advanced age, forest brigand Iron Lohan decides to pass on the torch of ruling over Lo Ma Lake to his beloved protégé Flying Dragon , the prospective marriage partner of his daughter Silver Girl. Special commissioner Chang Ching is put in charge of cracking down on opium trafficking rampant in the lake district. The tyrannical local gentry Gentry Wang throws a welcoming banquet for the official, inviting the songstress Little Peach Red to grace the event but the singer is abducted midway by Lohan's lackey Chen Piao to entertain the guests at the inauguration reception held in Dragon's honour. Chasing after the captive, Chang meets Dragon and earns Peach's release and her affection with his impeccable etiquette. When the conscientious official returns the gifts sent by Dragon as a gesture of friendship, he stumbles on an opium operation masterminded by Wang and his men who have appropriated the identity of the Lo Ma Lake band. With the injured Chang hiding out in a destitute temple, Peach sets off to deliver the important letter to his superior only to be captured by Wang. Dragon rushes to her rescue and having recognised her as his long-lost sister, assembles a rescue mission to save Chang from the villains and hand them over to the authorities. I have looked through the film at the action scenes and it kind of reminds us that in reality, when the Chinese wanted to do battle in that period, they used guns, which were actually readily available. It was only later, when after WWII that the communists in China, British in Hong Kong and republicans in Taiwan made guns scarce. Not a lot of Kung Fu battles in historically accurate dramas. Not as much fun as Fist of Fury or Sacred Knives of Vengeance, but probably closer to what really happened.
