Member whitesnake Posted May 16, 2018 Member Share Posted May 16, 2018 A new samurai comedy, Flea-Picking Samurai (aka Nomitori Samurai), from Toho Co., Ltd., opened theatrically in Japan on May 18th, 2018. The director is Yasuo Tsuruhashi (The Black Widow Business, 2016). Plot - "Nironoshin Kobayashi is a samurai in the Nagaoka Domain. One day, he angers the daimyo. The daimyo orders him to work catching cats' fleas from customers and earn a daily wage. In fact, his work is to give sexual service to female customers." It is based on a short story collection, Nomi Tori Samurai by Shigeo Komatsu. Cast includes Hiroshi Abe (Thermae Romae; Legend of the Demon Cat), Shinobu Terajima (A Samurai Chronicle), Etsushi Toyokawa (Punk Samurai Slash Down), Takumi Saitoh (John Woo's Manhunt), Shinobu Otake (Sanada 10 Braves), and Morio Kazama (Honnouji Hotel). Member Takuma Posted May 18, 2018 Member Share Posted May 18, 2018 I didn't realize this was rated R15+... which is something in a country where Fight Club, Goodfellas, Starship Troopers, The Exorcist and Horrors of Malformed Men are PG-12 😀 Of course, this is probably R15+ for sexuality (in terms of which Japan is more strict than violence), but R15+ still takes more than just boobs to achieve. Not that it really makes me wanna see the film (I kinda hate Hiroshi Abe), but I was going to dismiss this without second thought like 99% of new Japanese mainstream cinema, but now I'm slightly curious.
