I'm curious about this movie Jade hands of death. I searched on hkmdb and didn't find anything.

As a First film production, it must be a good one !!

Mr Kwangtung and the Highwayman. Hsu Feng and Champ Wang.

mr kwongtung and the robber - article 01.jpg

Jade Hands of Death might be an aka of something we know. Directed by Lee Tso Nam. Maybe Shanghai Massacre?

Only four hours away from me...

Duel at the Forest must be some unknown alias too. No idea about Chuang Chih Hao Ching either.

You have to be working on a specific research project to view the films so it sounds like only someone like a major contributor to the HKMDB could get access to them.

Duel at the Forest is the Hsu Feng film: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=10302

and Chuang Chih Hao Ching is Whampoa Blues: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=7268

I was thinking it was the Hsu Feng film but they have it listed under a year of 1983, which is almost a decade afterwards. Thanks for confirming Whampoa Blues.

The clue on that one is the production company. They made a mistake on the year, probably because that is the date on the paperwork or the reels of the print they have, possibly the year the print came to the US. For a long time no one could seem to pin the actual date on that film down.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

I may reach out to them this week and find out how things work for screenings, as well as, the possibility of getting these on a telecine. I can't afford a transfer, very few will chip in, LOL! 100,000 views on some of these old movies on youtube, but not one penny to keep them up.

Very good point dude.

To chip in, means they have to actually buy the film when it gets transffered to DVD etc.

this is very interesting. I wonder how many other schools have film prints. the site says for research purposes only. only to be viewed in their viewing rooms. if anyone decides to make the trip keep us posted.😉

They are here and there. Some schools are ok with DVD's. UC Berkeley is no looking for donations of DVD's, only film. I understand this is a bit of an anomaly, as the guy that was the curator was a big kung fu fan. That being said, as I mentioned, they have all the celestial Shaw DVD's at UCLA. I imagine the "arty" kung fu stuff like King Hu or certain Chang Cheh movies are scattered around the universities. If someone is a student I think they can look a little deeper. Also, it is tough to find as they are not all simply listed as martial arts films or kung fu etc. Also a search for Golden Harvest will pick up Golden and Harvest, etc.
