I had a hard time recognising Ricky Cheng in this - he looked so different pre-Shaws.

An early minor role for him, still more prominenet that his earlier work playing extra's. Look out for him in the Jackie Chan/Wang Yu flick Killer Meteor(1976).

I would more likely say a " grape " of hair...or the shadow of something.

From aesthetically point of view, definitely YES!

While the choice of some scalp hair wigs also left me wondering if the director or outfitter or whoever wanted to make sure the stars do not look too good!

I guess it kept the Hong Kong/Asian wig industry going at the time. There must outtakes somewhere, of actors losing hair pieces during the fight scenes.

Hwang Jang-Lee is at his maddest and most outragous. In this Old-School Kung Fu comedy filmed in Taiwan. You can read my complete Buddha Assassinator themed thoughts & question's, by clicking on the link below.

"If I can destroy the Buddha style, then the Ching Dynasty will remain forever"

Enter the bad guy's, Lord Tsoi(Hwang Jang-Lee), Mo(Lung Fei) and actress Nancy Hu Kuen-Chen.

Hsiang Wu(Sze Ma-Lung) stands proud with his thrifty Master(Su Cheng-Ping).

Devils Mirror (Hong Kong) Shaw Brothers (1970)

The Devils Mirror (Taiwan) Hoi Fung Films Porduction Company (1970)

It has been discussed a little while ago that the Shaws' 1970 (if I remember well) one has been replaced by the 1971 one with a different cast (no more Lo Lieh nor Shih Szu...).

The one you showed looks very interesting !
