Wiro Sableng (aka 212 Warrior, IMDB) is an action fantasy movie set in 16th century Indonesia.  It is based on a series of  martial arts adventure novels (185 novels) by popular Indonesian author Bastian Tito.  The actor playing the hero Wiro Sableng in the movie, Vito G. Bastian, is Bastian Tito's son.  The movie, a co-production between Fox International Productions and Lifelike Pictures (Indonesian), opens in Indonesia in September 2018.  The story "centered on an axe-wielding hero of legend who accrues a number of skills on his adventures".  The cast also includes Cecep Arif Rahman (a Pencak Silat trainer who appeared in The Raid 2) and Marsha Timothy (The Raid 2).  While Wiro Sableng is made primarily for Indonesian distribution, it may also get distributed to other countries.  Wiro Sableng was also made into a movie in 1988 as well as an Indonesian TV series a few years later.  The 1988 movie and some TV episodes are available on Youtube.  Youtube - "Wiro Sableng 2018 (The Warrior 212) Trailer Behind The Scenes & List Pemain Lifelike Pictures" - (7 minutes long) is  here -

Hmmm....I don't know about Indonesian action cinema.  Much like Thai action cinema was only worth checking out if the late Panna Rittikrai was attached, so it seems for Indonesia the only action movies worth checking out are the ones with either Gareth Evans (who's now moved back to the UK) or the Mo Brothers at the helm.

That's cool they can do crossovers like that for a promo of both movies.

So this is like Indonesia's Gu Long novel? Nice. With 185 novels in total, you could make one sweet film series.

I'm surprised Hollywood hasnt snatched the books up, for their next cinematic universe.

I know its not very likely, but maybe one day, there will be a series of Martial Arts films, that rival's the many Kwan Tak Hing appeared in. Not in terms of quality, but in terms of sheer quantity.

Here's the latest trailer for Wiro Sableng.  The movie opens in Indonesia on August 30th.  Plot - "In a riot that killed both his parents, 4-year old boy Wiro is rescued and raised by an eccentric old female warrior, Screwy Sinto.  The perpetrator of the riot turns out to be Sinto's former disciple, Mahesa Birawa, who turns his back on her and uses her ultimate fighting technique for his own vicious needs that know no boundaries.  Stung by betrayal and worried that Mahesa will get even more dangerous, she bestows upon Wiro a secretive, legendary silat style and grooms him to be the next 212 Dragon Axe Warrior.  After 17 years of training, 21 year-old Wiro inherits the mighty 212 Axe and leaves his master and the mountains he has called home to put an end to Mahesa's evil deeds."  Info from https://filmcombatsyndicate.com/wiro-sableng-212-sweeping-action-comedy-and-adventure-in-the-new-official-trailer/

This looks fun. It seems some actors can handle the action better than others as the glimpses we get of fight scenes vary between sloppy looking and good. But that’s a small gripe.

This looks better than 90% of the big budget fantasy martial arts films coming out of China.

Wiro Sableng had its Indonesian premiere this week.  It's one of the most expensive movies in Indonesia, and is the first one with international backing, by Fox International Productions.  The movie was completed in 4K.  "With so much material, this film was of course something of an origins story," said [Sheila Timothy, one of the film's producers] earlier this week.  "And anyone who stayed through the end credits can see the teaser introducing a new character, perhaps a new nemesis for Wiro."  The article about the premiere is at - https://variety.com/2018/film/asia/indonesia-crazy-for-wiro-sableng-1202921657/

Wiro Sableng - Pendekar Kapak Maut Naga Geni 212 (or just 212 Warrior) will be screened for family audiences on December 11, 2018 at the third International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM).  From https://variety.com/2018/film/asia/macao-macau-festival-full-line-up-1203023096/
