Member mpm74 Posted October 30, 2017 Member Share Posted October 30, 2017 Just in time for Halloween! The title says it all. A great list of a lot of films that need to be seen. http://cityonfire.com/city-on-fires-list-of-essential-japanese-horror-cinema-best-top-10-asian/
Member De Ming Li Posted October 30, 2017 Member Share Posted October 30, 2017 Pretty good list. The opening paragraph got me thinking: Why hasn't Chinese (mainly Hong Kong, but also Taiwanese and Mainland China) films of the horror genre achieved nearly as much success in the West as Japanese and later Korean outputs? The reasons briefly outlined in this article is part of the cause but I think generally in Chinese cinema there is simply less emphasis on making good chill to the bone horror as Japanese cinema. I reckon with Japan being modernized (Westernized) for some eight decades earlier than China is also a major cause.

Because the Japanese & Korean output are typically and actually very scary.
