Exceptional on every level: direction, cinematography, action, story, acting, you name it. Tatsuya Nakadai was excellent as the lead character. His ability to express emotion with just a look is amazing. I read (or heard) somewhere that he was one of Bruce Lee's film idols. Maybe thats where Bruce picked that same ability. And hes a pretty good swordsman (on screen) as well. Is Tetsuro Tamba the Lo Lieh of Japanese cinema?! That guy is in alot of freakin movies! Supposedly Mifune walked out on this production because of the extreme cold, and I could see why. I wonder how many of the actors actually had to be treated for hypothermia or frost bite? An absolute masterpiece! A must see, Im sure most have already. **Spoiler** One more thing...How the hell did Magobie get out of that snow when he was tied up?
