Guest limubai2000
Shochiku just celebrated 110 years as a company, they are synonymous with quality judai geki films. When my girlfriend (native Japanese) sees a film start with their logo she knows she will love it, like Hidden Blade. She buys DVDs by their logo alone on her trips to Japan. Guest kungfusamurai
What well known films did Shochiku produce? Is their logo the one with the diamond? KFS
Guest contraspirit
They are responsible for movies like the classic HARAKIRI as well as CASSHERN, TWILIGHT SAMURAI or Kitano´s ZATOICHI. And their logo is a volcano (Mt.Fuji?).
Guest kenichiku
What well known films did Shochiku produce? Everythang my friend, everythang. These guys elevated the Ofuna studio to what it is now: Mizoguchi, 47 Ronin, Sansho the Bailiff, Ugetsu Kinoshita, 24 Eyes Ozu, Tokyo Story, Good Morning Oshima, Night & Fog in Japan, Cruel Story of Youth BTW, Shaw Bros. collaborated with them in the 50s w/Mizo-san's 'Princess Yang Kwai Fei'. Enuff of the arthouse for you guys, some of the popular: Seijin Suzuki, Story of Sorry & Sadness (his rare golf drama!) Yoshitaro Nomura, Zero Focus & Village of the 8 Gravestones (drama) All of the Tora-san comedies mostly directed by Koji Yamada Nihonmatsu, X From Outer Space (kaiju) Saito, Goke-Body Snatcher From Hell (remade by Miike) Kinji Fukusaku, If You Were Young: Rage, Blackmail is My Life (pre-Toei), The Fall Guy (upon return) Nagisa Oshima, Gohatto (Gay themed Jidai Geki) Hideo Gosha, Goyokin, Hunter in the Dark, 3 Outlaw Samurai, Kagero ...so there's plenty from Shochiku you can ponder on!
