Does the infamous Future War (1997) with raptor, Daniel Bernhardt, and the late Robert Z'Dar (aka The Catcher's Mitt with Eyes) count?

Technically, yes. Bernhardt's character is from the future and he does perform some MA fight scenes. Having said that, I just watched the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment of this movie, and it is really the only way a person should watch it. Yes, it's so bad, it deserves to be made fun of by puppet robots.

Oh, hey, you could add The Guyver 1 & 2, especially the 2nd one. Tons of good MA in that one.

And Time Rush is a relatively futuristic MA endeavor.

Wait, they made a KOF movie? And it's futuristic? That's not how the games are. Who played Terry Bogard?

Oh, there's also Avenging Fist and Cold Harvest and Tekken.

(I keep editing this post.)

And there's Heatseeker, Firepower, and Dragon Fight.

Hi @ShaOW!linDude, thanks for the additional titles. There must be a lot more Hong Kong movies I can add to the list too.

One of your favorite movies Sci-Fighter(2004) made its way onto the list, there's quite a few Don Wilson movies on the list.

Yet to see this one DrNgor, we'll take ShaOW!linDude's word for it.

Would we count Kirk Wong's 1983 Health Warning aka Flash Future Kung Fu as one that melds sci-fi and martial arts? I saw it a long time ago, but asking for input in terms of this thread

It was a bad movie IMO @FieryReign ...some story about alternate dimensions were added and 87Eleven Stunt Team co-founder David Leitch played Terry Bogard and was also the film's fight choreographer. It should be added that Gordon Chan directed the film.

I cant comment on this title, never had the chance to watch this one.

Would Gary Daniels actioner The Spoiler count as a Sci-Fi/MA mix-up?, its a long time since I rented this from the local Blockbuster. Don't recall this futuristic movie featuring that much in the way of Martial Arts displays, despite Daniels being the star.

There's a lot of Don Wilson/Gary Daniels titles being listed in this thread so far.

Just thought of another. Expect No Mercy starring Billy Blanks and Jalal Merhi.

And Automatic starring Olivier Gruner. In fact he has a number of sci-fi/action movies, but I'm not sure how many of the others have any MA in them.

Black Mask 2? I really liked Adkins goofy, futuristic, goggle-wearing scientist or whatever he was. Hanging from wires upside down and shit. It was the coolest thing of that entire disaster.

Oops, never mind. It's already listed.

Message from Space (Uchu kara no messeji, 1978) starring Sonny Chiba, Vic Morrow, Etsuko Shihomi, Tetsuro Tamba, Hiroyuki Sanada.  It was heavily influenced by Star Wars.

Ultracop2000 (1992)

Techno Warriors (1997)

Digital Warriors (1999)

I should have listed this one already, as I have it on DVD.

Apart from Nemesis, I haven't watched any of Gruners other sci-fi inspired movies.

Thanks for the additional titles.

Yet to see Black Mask 2, and I've only seen the heavily edited international print of Black Mask with Jet Li.

I would say it'd be more difficult to make an argument as to why it wouldn't be classed as sci-fi, so it's a definite yes from me.

I was late replying to this thread, so the movies I was going to mention have all already been brought up, but I'l throw in 'Volcano High' from Korea -

Japan's 'Muscle Hear' (or 'Blood Heat' as it was re-titled for the U.S.) -

& @DragonClaws, depending on whether or not you want to count post-apocalyptic movies as sci-fi, that could open up a whole genre with Richard Norton's Filipino movies.  But for now, I'll leave a trailer for 'Eternal Fist' -

I've been contemplating this One Armed Boxer, maybe we could consider post-apocalyptic movies too?. Back in the days when film retialers had more genre sections, the Mad Max movies would often be found under Sci-Fi aswell as the in the action section.

How have I managed to miss this title?, looks like good way to spend and hour and thirty minutes.

Added peoples suggestions to the list at the start of the thread. Missing some Sonny Chiba titles, a few are mentioned in the article I posted a link for, earlier in the thread.

If we're going to include post-apocalyptic titles, then these 3 definitely deserve a mention -

Future Hunters (1986)

Equalizer 2000 (1987)

Fist of the North Star (1995)

Would also have to throw in the last installment of the Unisol series, with 'Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning' (2012)

I'm surprised no one has brought up 'Equilibruim' (2002) yet.

A few more from Asia -

Magic Crystal (1986) (Hong Kong)

Versus (2000) (Japan)

Returner (2002) (Japan)

Princess Blade (2003) (Japan)

Hard Revenge Milly: Bloody Battle (2009) (Japan)

Alien Vs. Ninja (2010) (Japan)

Yakuza Weapon (2011) (Japan)

Alien VS Ninja(2009) suggested by One Armed Boxer, and I seem to recall @DrNgor did a review of this one?

My bad, @DragonClaws. "Dragon Fight" should be Dragon Fire (1993).

No problemo, I've corrected the title and and year.

Just realized since Dragon Fire was mentioned, there was another futuristic version of Bloodfist appropriately titled Bloodfist 2050. Matt Mullins was the star of that one and faces the likes of Sideswipe partner Chris Brewster and the champion fighter was none other than Monsour del Rosario. Joe Mari Avellana plays the referee in this one, decked out like a cowboy from hell!

Watch the trialer for Ryan Monolopolou's sci-fi themed Martial Arts short Alpha.

For some 90's Hong Kong style sci-fi action, check out the trailer for Black Mask.
