Member Iron_Leopard Posted March 12, 2017 Member Share Posted March 12, 2017 I have a fascination with the dying days of Shaw Brothers martial arts films. Movies like "Opium and the Kung Fu Master" and "Disciples of the 36 Chambers" really appeal to me a depressing sort of way. It's hard to describe but it's the same fascination I have with the dark days of Disney at the same period which was mid 80s. Are there any other good films from let's say 83 to 85? Member panku Posted March 13, 2017 Member Share Posted March 13, 2017 There are a lot of great films from this era. Some of the best are: Eight Diagram Pole Fighter Secret Service of the Imperial Court The Master Strikes Back The Lady Assassin Hong Kong Godfather
Member Iron_Leopard Posted March 14, 2017 Author Member Share Posted March 14, 2017 Holy freaking crap! Just watched "The Lady Assassin" on youtube. Thank you for introducing this movie into my life. Exactly what I was looking for. "Shit just got real" was a term invented for the closing fight scene of this fantastic flick.
Moderator Karlos Posted March 18, 2017 Moderator Share Posted March 18, 2017 Fascinating era, for sure. (Did Mercenaries From Hong Kong come out then? I love that one!) The desire to keep competing saw Shaws really break out the quality, or, if that failed, the gore and nudity.
