CityonFire.com revealed that Well Go USA will release Gintama on Blu-ray and DVD on Feb 20, 2018 [sorry, looks like the release has been pushed back to March 6th], and should soon be available for pre-order on Amazon.  Well Go USA hasn't been picking up the live action Japanese movies based on manga and anime before.  If they're released in the US, usually it's from Funimation.  So maybe some distributor will pick up the live action Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Laughing Under the Clouds, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for release here too.

A live action Gintama sequel has been announced for release in Japan in summer 2018.

Azoland Pictures has a limited U.S. theatrical release for Gintama on January 20 - 21 - 22, probably one release dubbed and the other subbed.  Find out if it's playing in your area here - http://www.azolandpictures.com/gintama/  The news is from Film Combat Syndicate - http://filmcombatsyndicate.blogspot.com/2018/01/gintama-azoland-pictures-acquires.html

As far as I know, the Blu-ray/DVD release from Well Go USA is still scheduled for March 6, 2018 - https://videoeta.com/items/198384-gintama

Too bad it's not in the Orlando area. Would have been an awesome b-day present for me LOL

According to the website, Gintama is playing in 4 locations in Florida.  Like, if it was playing in San Francisco, and I really wanted to see it, that would be a 2-hour drive for me.  I've made that drive many times over the past 4 decades.  But it's playing in 2 locations a lot closer to here (such as the closest Studio Movie Grill).  And it will be out on Blu-ray and DVD in a couple of months.  Maybe someone will get that as a present for your birthday.  Get some take-out sushi from a Japanese restaurant to eat while watching that.

I did a stop at Best Buy on my way to work this morning - the Union Square store is open 24 hrs.

Buy a few new releases but this title was no where in sight. Spoke to an associate & she looked it up, system shows they suppose to have it but they couldn't find it after doing a search.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2018/02/01-1/gintama-2-live-action-film-hits-japanese-theaters-on-august-17-2018

The sequel has completed shooting this week and a release date was announced in February: August 17, 2018. Jiro Sato is returning to the film, but in a new role. He played perverted samurai Henpei in the original. (Sorry the post is in Japanese, but the photo teases director Fukuda with a familiar anime character)

Translation of post:

Gintama, shooting, it is a stuff! ️ It will be over in 2 days 🤣 I'm happy, I feel lonely 😌

Here's a promo for a 3-episode live action mini-series, Gintama 2: Yo ni mo Kimyo na Gintama-chan (Gintama 2 - The Exceedingly Strange Gintama-chan), adapting stories from the Gintama manga "as well as a story that features characters from Dragon Ball".  Maetel and Tetsuro, from Leiji Matsumoto's Galaxy Express 999 manga, also appear in the show.  The show starts on August 18th on Docomo's dTV streaming service.  The three episodes are "I Can't Sleep", "Hijikata Smoking Ban," and "No Matter How Old You Are You Hate Going to the Dentist".  The show is written and directed by Fukuda Yuichi (Gintama and Gintama 2 live action movies).  Shun Oguri plays Gintoki Sakata in the mini-series as well as in the Gintama 2 movie (Gintama 2: Okite wa Yaburu tame ni koso Aru).  Also both in the Gintama 2 movie and Gintama 2 mini-series are:  Kanna Hashimoto (as Kagura), Yuya Yagira (as Hijikata), Kankuro Nakamura (as Isao Kondo), Shin'ichi Tsutsumi (as Katuriko Matsudaira), and Ryo Yoshizawa (as Sougo Okita).  News from https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-08-08/2nd-live-action-gintama-show-trailer-reveals-dragon-ball-characters/.135220   Promo -

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2018/08/20-1/japan-box-office-live-action-gintama-2-debuts-at-no1-with-excellent-528-million-yen

Gintama 2 was a massive hit at the box office, raking in 582 million yen ($5.26 million) in its opening weekend. This also comes at the news that manga creator Hideaki Sorachi is ending the manga on September 15 with the final chapter at Weekly Shonen Jump magazine after creating the title in 2004.
