Mojin: The Lost Legend was released on Blu-ray and DVD by Well Go USA on May 3, 2016.   A big budget direct sequel, Mojin X, is being produced by Zhang Wang through Saints Entertainment.  Li Yifan is the director.  The cast includes Celina Jade (Wolf Warriors II)  Zhang Hanyu (Operation Red Sea) and Jiang Wu (Shock Wave).  News from https://variety.com/2018/film/asia/celina-jade-china-mojin-x-tomb-1202968503/ and https://filmcombatsyndicate.com/mojin-x-to-sequel-after-wuershans-mojin-casting-celina-jade-zhang-hanyu-and-jiang-wu/

"Zhang Hanyu will take the role of  Hu Bayi, a former soldier who became a tomb raider after inheriting a book on tomb configuration from his family.  Jiang Wu will play Wang Kaixuan, Bayi's former comrade in the army and good friend.  Celina Jade is cast as Shirley Yang, an American-born Chinese and photographer for National Geographic."  The novel series, Ghost Blows Out the Light by Zhang Muye, "follows the story of Hu Bayi and his partner in crime, Wang Kaixuan as they raid tombs in search of riches.  The duo will seek clues among ancient mythical sites across China together with Shirley Yang."  (From http://www.dramapanda.com/2018/10/new-ghost-blows-out-light-film-to-star_8.html)

Even more Mojin movies:  Fei Xing is directing two Mojin movies based on Ghost Blows Out The Light.  These are from Enlight Media with a budget of $40 million (or maybe each has a budget of $40 million).  Mojin: The Worm Valley gets a 2018 Chinese release, while Mojin: The Dragon Ridge will be released in 2019.  The cast of both includes Cai Heng, Yu Heng, Gu Xuan (Disney High School Musical: China), and Chen Yusi (Walking Past the Future).  Huayi Brothers is handling international sales.  Between this pair of movies, and Mojin X (directed by Li Yifan), and Mojin Returns (from Tsui Hark, with a release date of October 1, 2019), this Mojin franchise thing is getting really confusing.  Info on the Fei-Xing-directed Mojin movies at https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-11-05/miss-hokusai-director-keiichi-hara-receives-japan-medal-with-purple-ribbon/.139085

Synopsis for Mojin: The Worm Valley - "The action-packed new film tells a story about the Mojin tomb raider team entering a lost world in southwest China's Yunnan province inhabited by gross giant worms and monsters, to find a mysterious gem in an ancient royal tomb needed to break a curse afflicting them.  Mojin refers to Mojin Xiaowei, a government job in ancient times in China mainly in charge of exploring tombs in a hunt for treasure, thereby providing financial aid to the military.  Those who took the job were required to have a good knowledge of geomantic omens and occult sciences, and have superb kung fu skills, wisdom and courage not found in ordinary tomb robbers."  Synopsis from Well Go USA - "Mojin: The Worm Valley once again finds legendary tomb explorer Hu Bayi on a dangerous mission as he seeks out the Tomb of Emperor Xian, located on an island of monstrous creatures."

Finally, an explanation for the multiple Mojin movies - "With the copyright of all eight volumes of Zhang Muye's novel [Ghost Blows Out The Light] represented by the online novel website qidian.com, the rights to explore the film adaptations were sold to different film and TV studios.  This caused many controversies, as various directors were found to be working on different 'Mojin' stories to make them films, TV series and internet series with different casts, while the quality and styles also varied."  "Fei [Fei Xing, director of Mojin: The Worm Valley] has two other 'Mojin' installments in development, and one of them [Mojin: The Dragon Ridge] will be released in 2019.  However, he is not the only one working on the franchise.  Legendary Hong Kong film wizard, Tsui Hark's 'Mojin Returns' will also hit Chinese theaters next year."  From https://www.chinaentertainmentnews.com/2018/12/director-brings-fresh-air-to-chinas.html

Lee B. Golden III reviews Mojin: The Worm Valley at https://filmcombatsyndicate.com/mojin-the-worm-valley-illuminates-the-world-building-potential/ - "Unless you have any inhibitions about CG-heavy films or suffer from any number of phobias related to crustaceans, lizards or insects, Mojin: The Worm Valley should serve as worthwhile PG-13 entertainment."

Mojin: The Worm Valley just opened in China.  According to https://variety.com/2018/film/asia/china-box-office-aquaman-spider-verse-kill-mobile-1203096917/  - "Local fantasy sequel, 'Mojin: The Worm Valley' came in second despite just two days in theatres, bringing in $14.2 million over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Nevertheless, its haul was poor compared to that of its predecessor, the 2015 hit “Mojin: The Lost Legend,” which that year broke records with a three-day intake of $93.4 million, marking what was then the third largest opening for a mainland film. It also became the highest-ever grossing local language IMAX film at that time.  The 'Worm Valley' sequel has been viciously dismissed by Chinese commentators online, receiving a dismal 3.6 out of 10 aggregate rating from nearly 11,000 users on popular platform Douban. Several dubbed it the worst film of the year. 'These awful films of yours are just making more space for Aquaman,’ said one popular comment, while another noted blithely: 'Watching this felt like dying.' "

Maybe Chinese film viewers are just getting tired of tomb raider movies.  Before the HK Cinema channel account was closed on Youtube recently for copyright violation, there were quite a few trailers for tomb-raider-type movies:  The Mystery Mausoleum, Qian Long Duo Bao, Tomb Fight for Beauty, Tomb Story, Yu Hun Shi, Treasure Union: Phoenix Treasure, Tomb Anecdote, Jiu Long Jie Guan, Qin Huang Xi Zhong, Mu Ye Gui Shi Zhi Shen Xian Yan, and Candle in the Tomb (2019).  (I watched all those tomb trailers, and they've vanished off Youtube.  Now where am I going to get my fix for new Chinese trailers?)
