Member AlbertV Posted January 12, 2016 Member Share Posted January 12, 2016 In the 1970's, martial arts film fans got their taste of Owen Watson (aka Charles Song) when he starred in two films shot on location in New York City, Force Four and Velvet Smooth, the latter of which he also served as the martial arts choreographer. Watson was born on June 15, 1944 and was highly skilled in Karate. He was best friends with "The Black Dragon" Ron Van Clief and the two would go on to form Chinese Goju-Ryu Karate, based on their experiences with meshing Goju-Ryu Karate and Kung Fu. Watson, like Van Clief, won many tournaments and eventually, Watson would begin training in Nisei Goju Ryu Karate under its founder, Frank Ruiz. After taking the lead in Force Four and taking the co-lead and martial arts choreographer job in Velvet Smooth, Watson relocated to Nevada. Just prior to this, he founded his own martial art style, Sung Lung Miu Goju Ryu Karate. Sadly, Owen had issues with diabetes and on October 30, 2005, Owen Watson passed away due to complications from it. His legacy still lives on with Chinese Goju, Sung Lung Miu and an offshoot of that style, Sung Lung Ryu, still being taught today. RIP Owen Watson...
